Well, firing it up as UK they only have 6 units in France. When they moblise/build more new units they will have another 14. My guess is that those will never leave the UK shore. Also France leaves the Belgium border empty, which may be historical but makes it quite easy for the Germans to sweep through. If UK had those as their provinces then they may at least station troops in them and slow the German advance (I beleive it was the British troops who held the Northen flank and in all the confusion managed to prevent the Germans from getting around the flank and onto Paris.

Oh, and another problem is the time to build fortifications. There is the ability to dig in and then there are trench systems. Seems to me that you should be able to build trench systems, and fast (instead of taking 5 years to get to level 5, it should take say 1 or 2 years to get to max). That way there may be more chance of defending (if the AI actually build these defenses). Though that is only useful if the armies come to a standstill opposite each other.

Suggest looking at WannabeTatar's WW1 mod. It not only improves the entire WW1 setup, but corrects Italian, Romanian, Turkish ect. entry into the war and ensures troops attack the right places. It also has events that insantly build level 5 fortifications in the provinces. It improves WW1 hugely. link to War of the Nations
