NO. SP2 was 2 or 3 weeks ago, with no problem. this was something that auto-downloaded a couple of days ago, but i did not install it until today...J.J.E. said:SP2 I presume...?
yes, a critical error window pops up and says the sound card drivers are wrong, but i don't have a sound card, at least not a separate card, it is on the MBoard... anyway, HoI does not do anything except display the message, "loading sounds," or something like that.Churchill2004 said:hmmm, mine did that too. does a window saying something's wrong with the sound card come up?
i'm not sure what it is, or how i fixed it. but it went away after a few days. but i'm pretty sure i did something to fix it, but i have no idea how. anyway, microsoft would be the ppl to ask, not us here at paradox forums.
the sound in HoI worked fine, until i ran the "upgrade". thanks, Mr. G. i will trot on over there.Mr.G 24 said:You know who would know this, Castellon go ask it in the support forum.
Edit: Oh yea if say you have no sound get a music program and use that to run the HoI music in the background.
don't know if sound works other than in HoI as the only game i tried was HoI, all copies... but yes, the game refuses to work. RE: microstupid: understand. :wacko:Churchill2004 said:if it is what i think it is, or what i had anyway, sound works fine. only in games did mine stop working, and also the game refused to work.
if you can get ahold of anyone at microsoft, ask them. then again getting ahold of a human at microsoft probably is impossible. i suspect that the computers took over there and microsoft employees were all killled. the evil computers use holograms to create the illiusion that humans actually exist at microsoft. thier goal was to make sure no human voice or anything other than an automatic e-mail could ever be recieved from the company, and to destory all humanity with the Y2K+5 bug, which will strike at January 1,2005.
did not work. i even rebooted windows three times. btw, i only uninstalled my sound driver. the sound "card" is on the MainBoard...Vissarion said:Do as I said, go to control panel -> system -> device manager, find "sound and video controllers" (or something like that), right click the name of your soundcard and click uninstall. Now next time you rebbot windows will detect the card and reinstall the drivers.
i have had 9.0c for a long time. don't remember when i did that upgrade.Mediator said:Did you upgrade to DirectX 9.0c?

FWIW, i went to a link provided by the messages in Castellon's 'area' (DriverDr?) and it said that i had out of date drivers for:
1. Display adapters: PV-S05A-c
2. IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers: SiS PCI IDE Controller
3. Sound, video, and game controllers: C-Media AC97 Audio Device
so, i am trying to find those drivers. the third driver is the one that i deleted.

thanks for the help. sooner or later i will be back up.
true, it is crap. but since i am tone deaf, i probably don't know how crappy it is. :wacko:korny said:I had a C-Media AC97 Audio Device on my MB - its been crap since day 1 - I had to disable it and get a new sound card shortly after I setup my MB a year ago...
