[Windows, Launcher Problem][Solved] Launcher doesnt update itself : v2020.5

So, the EU4 Launcher wont update itself.
for some reason im stuck on version 2020.5 and i cant update it.
I already triedit with Firewall off, and uninstalled EU4 through steam and
deleted all remaining EU4-related files afterwards, except some mods and a savegame. then I reinstalled EU4.
this is what I see:

the launcher, when I start it

when I click on "Log in"


I used to use a cracked version of EU4 until the steam wintersale '20, where I bought the game.
I deleted everything from the cracked version, including the "/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis 4/" folder
and most local mods I had.

so, can anyone help?

Please try this:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Note that you can run eu4.exe directly from Windows Explorer, which bypasses the launcher.

Done. didnt work, but here are the .log files and the json that was there too.

I can play just fine in singleplayer, its just that i cant use the mod tools button as well as i cant play online.

You are still using the cracked version, are you not?

No, im not. in that folder are only some launcher files. my game files are here:

F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV

i already deleted everything from the cracked version a while ago, because i suspected it might interfere with the steam install.

Then I can only guess there is some remnant of the launche rleft from back then. Do the clean reinstall of the launcher again, but also check the registry for that false file location, in fact anything to do with the launcher, before installing it again.

So, i deleted with "regedit" the
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-somemorenumbers\Software\Paradox Interactive\
key folder and the folders in %appdata%, as you said in post #2,and the launcher updated itself! im now at version 2020.11 and the launcher is asking me to close it again and update a second time, so everything works now!

and i can finally see the mod thumbnails.... FINALLY XD

btw, what do these numbers in the HKEY_USERS folder mean? fallback points?

No idea, I am sorry, only the launcher developers would know that.
