Windowed mode?

How do I enable windowed mode? I knwo the feature ahs to be there, since it is proudly advertised on paradox's page (http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/arsenal-of-democracy) but I cannot figure out how to run the game in windowed mode.

Open Arsenal.exe in your AoD folder and click on Windowed Mode, or open settings.cfg in your AoD folder and add 1 instead of 0 to where it says this: 0 #WINDOWED MODE (1 for on)

If I change the settings.cfg the game crashes on start up with an error message. When I start arsenal.exe, the option "Windowed Mode" is there, but the writing is in red and the box cannot be checked. BTW, all resolution options are in 16-bit anyway. What must I do to run the game in windowed mode?

To me it appears red when I got windows on 32 bit. When I switch it to 16 it show it normal...

BTW, don't need to use 16-bit color... Install DXWnd from Sourceforge site and use it to emulate.

Here's what I did:
- ensure AOD/settings.cfg windowed mode is off (i.e. set to 0)
- create shortcut for AODGame.exe on desktop
- download DXWnd from Sourceforge
- run DXWnd, click Edit, click Add. Target window should appear.
- in Target window Main tab: Name field add whatever name you want
- in Target window Main tab: Path field use ... to browse for desktop shortcut you created above
- in Target window Main tab: ensure Run in Window is selected (should be by default)
- in Target window Main tab: set your desired W (width) and H (height) Ex.I tested x0 y0 w1680 h1050
- in Target window Mouse tab: choose your mouse settings; I selected Hide cursor and Correct mouse position
- Click OK to close Target window
- Right-Click on name you choose above to highlight it (it should be listed in the field below the menu bar) and select Run

I tried D3DWindower found in the same thread, but this seems to work better (i had crapped version of D3DWindower). There are some minor display issues, which are not so annoying, when you take into account, that native windowed mode for 16-bit isn't perfect too.
Maybe with proper settings it could run even better ?

Thanks all for the advice, will try out these programs to run AoD windowed, setting Windows to 16-bit sounds annoying.

Just purchased AoD from Steam 2 days ago. Like the complexity. However, It will not play in anything but 16 bit color and this is with windowed mode not being used. I tried the higher resolutions but i like 1024 since my screen is 22" and I'm an old dude so squinting to read isn't really for me. Any thoughts on this, "WTF?!!!"?

Hmm, maybe You somehow changed startup settings for AoD. Honestly, i wouldn't buy anything on Steam unless necessary (i have only one). There are a lot of problems with many games, which are unknown for normal releases.

I don't know what i could have done, The switcher/starter thingy shows me the tick box for the windowed mode, but it is red and the tool tip says i need to turn my desk top to 16 bit color.
