Basically when set to windowed mode, CK2 doesn't use the entirety of the screen even when set to the full resolution of the monitor. An image probably is the best description here. Monitor is 1680x1050, and this is what the bottom of the screen looks like when CK2 is set to 1680x1050.

There's 5 pixels unused at the bottom even by the border. I have 1037 pixels of playable area height.

And this is what it looks like when CK2 is set to 1680x1045 - notice that the UI buttons are no longer (completely) clipped, but the same 5 pixels are unused. I still have the same 1037 pixels of playable height.

Now when set to 1680x900 just to see what happens - things work as expected, and I have 900 pixels of height in the playing area.

EDIT: And then to 1680x1037 - I get 1037 playable area, and the 5 pixels are now "used".

This is due to the problem that the window borders collide with the edges of the screen. The edges take a few pixels off the game when you set it to the maximum height/width the screen supports when running the game in windowed mode, which is why it starts to hide parts of the interface.

That's actually what I would normally expect[1], but here, the borders don't even reach down to the bottom of the screen. Paradoxically, I get more playing area by setting my height to 1037 (actual area: 1037) rather than 1050 (actual area: 1035 and further clipped) due to the render somehow ignoring 5 pixels of space at the bottom. My expectation for setting to 1050 is something along the lines of 1050 playable area with a whole bunch of bottom pixels offscreen and thus clipped (or [1], as it may be)

I mean, not a serious bug in any regard with an easy workaround, but I figured I'd report it since this is the first time I've seen anything like this (and I tend to play all my games as close to full-screen windowed)

[1] Not always the case though - at least a few patches ago at least on Windows 7, I got a full 1050 height playing area with the borders pushed "off-screen"

This was resolved either through the latest patch 1.111 or Windows 8.1 or my changing my second monitor.

No idea which!

It definitely wasn't the patch. I posted about this problem a while ago and got nowhere. I have the same problem with the EU4 demo so no Paradox games for me... :|
