[Win7] Game Freezes entire OS Music Still Plays

Hi Folks,

I played the game just fine the first two days it was out. Then last night and Tonight, I'm suddenly getting freezes. The entire screen is frozen, no mouse movement, nothing. However the background music still plays. I am able to ctr-alt-delete to the windows 7 menu (not sure what its called) and select task manager. It comes up but and i see it updating CPU usage etc but I'm unable to click on it at all.

I was able to play 4 hours straight on Tues/Wed just fine. Now I can scarcely go 30 minutes before I freeze up. Oh and the freezing really seems random. I could be at speed 4 at peace just waiting for cores or in the middle of a battle at speed 2. I really can't think of anything in particular that's repeatable. Sorry.

OS: Win 7 x64
CPU: AMD-FX octal core (Bulldozer, not sure which variant)
RAM: 16GB DDR3 @ 1066
GPU: Nvidia GTX 680 4GB VRAM

Things I've tried:
Updated graphics drivers to latest as of 8/16/2013
Restored bios to factory default

This is the only game this is happening on so i'm pretty sure my hardware/os is fine. I really do enjoy this game so I hope you get a fix soon.

Are you able to click on anything within the game or is just the movement frozen?

Please post the logs of the game as well:

• Go to '..\My Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\'.
• Open settings.txt, copy and paste the entire text between [NOPARSE]
  [/NOPARSE] tags.
• Go to '..\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\logs\'.
• Open errors.log, copy and paste the entire text between [NOPARSE]

• Open system.log, copy and paste the entire text between [NOPARSE]

• Open setup.log, search for the line with "checksum", copy and paste this entire line into your next reply.

Thanks for getting back to me on the weekend.

Last night I tried a few other games and I had the same issue. Turns out my SSD i installed steam on is failing intermittently. I installed steam on another HDD and everything is working just fine.

I was able to move the mouse but I was unable to click on anything. I've since reformatted my computer so I unfortunately don't have any of the crash logs; it hasn't crashed since.
