I'd love for the game to start earlier, or perhaps even end a bit later, but only if the developers are comfortable with it and they've managed to accomplish everything else they'd want to do beforehand. One'd have to assume that starting a few decades earlier would require a ton re-balacing, while ending the game a few decades later (1836 sounds cool to me) wouldn't require nearly as much work.

There are two things EU4 could do:

1. Really add mechanics to the industrial revolution beyond "manufactories" to make the late game more meaningful. Mechanics that would allow a large empire to slowly teeter off in the face of smaller industrialized nations.

2. Rework the 1600+ warfare game to favor fast sieges, fast truces, but more coalitions.

3. Rework the rival system so it becomes harder to succeed in the face of your rivals, with your rivals constantly getting in your way and working against you, and you working against your rivals. Also allow people to temporarily ally their rivals in the face of new threats (England and France saving the Ottomans from the Russians for example.)

4. Rework the revolution system so there is ALWAYS a late game threat rather than only some of the times. Make it so the revolution is the game's last hooraa, with 2 year truces and rapid quick sieges.

I really love this game, but although there is quite alot of content every few months, I can´t get rid of feeling that this is getting a bit old. I don´t mean EU4 overall but the 1444 starting date(I play Ironman only).
So question is: Are you going to expand timeline like in CK2 ?
It would add awesome fresh feeling to game if you could start ironman game few years/decades before 1444.

Please like this thread if you agree with me so devs can see it.

Well better making it go backwards than forward, end dates like 1850 wouldn´t work.

On the other hand the final period of the game, after 1750 could be WAY more interesting. Too few revolutions and CN breaking free.

I've found CNs to break free rather easily. When I went to the end date, Scotland had lost all of its CNs (predictable) and France had successfully supported the independence of every Iberian colonial nation (so massive Haitian, Canadian and Peru blobs).

And Hearts of Iron also has far more interesting and detailed mechanics than EUIV. :)

It has far detailed mechanics because it is incredibly more specific in time period and historicity - it is less than 20 years as opposed to freakin 380 years of EU4!!! Add to this the fact that HoI world is industrialized and 'westernized' (all significant powers) and there are mostly the same mechanics for Latin American and East Asian countries. Autocracy or democracy, oil, planes, tanks, copying western model to lesser or bogger degree etc.

Meanwhile in 1444 AD North America, Andes, Mesoamerica, Western Europe, Russia, Hordes, Islam, Subsaharan Africa, India, Indochina, China and Japan were all extremely, extremely different from each other, there is no common ground to simulate here - if someone wanted to represent each of those areas in DETAILS, he would need to remake base game for each of them.

There was more difference between governing models of Russia and neighboring Commonwealth from this period than between Vic2 and HoI4 government mechanics.
