I am looking forward to this great game and would like to know from fellow forum members if we would be able to control populations. For example would we be able to convert pop of a certain cultural group to laborers, farmers or soldiers? Would we be able to influence certain cultural groups in this game?

Influence yes, but not directly. There are a number of tools you can use to create incentives for people to take specific jobs. Taxes, expenses, simply building profitable factories yourself, and some form of "national focus" King mentioned in one sentence in latest DD thread. People will gravitate towards jobs that pay more, so you have to try and create these jobs if you want a change. One can guess that minority/citizenship laws will influence cultural groups, but there's no information on that yet I think.

I for one am very glad that they are making it an automatic system. Manual Control of the PoPs is about the only thing I did not like about Vicky.

I like POP promoting, it mat not be that realistic but it helped to feel like u were shaping the destiny of your country. I'm concerned that in vicky2 we will be watching the AI fill glass factories with all your best workers while your shiny new tank factory is left empty...we'll see I guess.

I'd settle for a sort of 50/50 system in my ideal world.

It's going to make playing China fun rather than an massive stress test on your wrist and fingers :)

Yeah, I only hope the automatic system will be working in a sensible manner, so that if wanna play Prussia and be a militarist I can do that without being totally gimped like the old game, and get good amount of soldier/officer PoPs kinda fast.

I remember with V1 there was a special way of succeeding as Prussia. You just stay out of trouble and try to achieve greatness without being militaristic in order to compete on the many other areas than war, then convert a lot of pops suddenly just as you had a war going. That was for me kinda silly...And too easy to beat the AI if they didn't do the same thing. Hoards of gold + loads of soldier POPs = win. That was the old deal.

I like more if i can manipulate my people to go into the army and perhaps even make decisions like conscription laws?

And when non-military, then i hope its possible to keep POPs to their routines somehow, if im conservative... gonna Role Play the kinda guy who doenst want artisans or farmers to leave their duties. Hope its possible, maybe if your Role Playing the Tsar, then those POPs are your property for the sake of god :D

I see. Would we be able to promote certain cultural pop into soldiers and build army from that cultural group or they would automatically get promoted to soldiers and we may select thereafter to build army from that cultural group?:)

Well, to be fair, Paradox has already said that: "You also have the option to set a priority for a factory in the state. This influences which factories POPs will work in. A higher priority factory in a state is more likely to pick up workers when they become available than a low priority one."

So you can always put a low priority on Glass factories and a high priority on Tank factories...

Frankly I think that this plus national focus, plus maybe a couple of decisions, should provide sufficient control without making you manually promote every damn pop.

In Victoria 2 I wish to rule as a ruthless dictatorship ruling with an iron hand and I hope Paradox would keep the option of conscription of the people into the military. I hope to conscript any type of population as soldiers as I wish and also from any culture I like. :)
