Will this game cap research slots at 5?

In HOI2 it capped research at 5 slots making it possible to be a minor and have a fun game.

In AOD it didnt and so as a minor its impossible to keep up with the big boys

WIll this game be minor friendly or boring like hoi3 and aod?

DH will have 5 slots but it made this moddable, so if you want you can change that number to 3 or 7 or 33. Also the IC necessary to add a new tech teams is moddable (but remains 20 for DH). Or if you want each country to have at minimum 2 or 3 or 5 tech slots instead of 1, that's possible too now.

Awesome, this is basically my only problem with AOD and if its fixed in this I will deffo buy it after I see the reviews (which is why I avoided Iron Cross up till now despite owning basically every grand strategy game paradox has done - even buying some twice!)

Does this also mean that the game will be severely imbalanced if the max tech slots is changed to 10? I've accustomed to the AoD style of 10 slots where it also worked quite well, so I'm asking this because I'm probably going to change the limit in DH to 10.

Many, if not most minor countries (worse than historically) are underperforming when it comes to research because of the low number of tech slots. Some majors are sometimes underperforming slightly as well unlike what they did historically, forcing the player to ignore certain techs that were researched in reality. My guess is that a minimum number of tech slots of 2 would be healthy for the game (nations that were truly technologically weak can still be hit by a nerf on tech teams), and a beefing up of some tech teams for most nations who historically performed well in certain research areas at the time, such as Sweden. As for a healthy maximum tech slot value (talking vanilla HOI2 tech tree that is) for very powerful nations, maybe a limit of 6 or 7 can be a good compromise.

You can also change the IC requirement for every techslot so you can balance it

The biggest challenge you are going to find when you mod the number of Tech Slots available, the number of IC to get a Tech slot, etc. is coming up with the money to pay for research. I tried a few test games with the Max raised to 20 slots.
Germany - Never had any money for Espionage (so was getting reamed by the AI) and was always researching at the slower unfunded rate.
USSR - Same
USA - Same until they entered the war, but even then was having money problems.
