Will mot Art/mot AT be implemented in Hoi4?

In Hoi3 i missed this types of units a lot. My favorite template for infantry division was 3xInf+1xArt+1xAT and when i wanted to make a motorised version of this i faced a big problem because there were no mot version of artillery. On the one hand, simple Art/AT slowed your mot divisions to 4 km/h what made no sence to add them. On the other hand, Self-Propelled Art/Tank Destroyers didn't fit this template either because they were as expansive as Medium Tanks and (what is more important) had the same terrain penalties. That is because SP Art/TDestr represent a gun that is placed on tank chassis but not the truck-towed artillery which were used in mot divisions IRL. Every gun had its personal truck which towed a gun and transported a gun-team and ammunition. It allowed artillery to move as fast as the rest of division.

There is a really cool variants system in Hoi4. We are allowed to make a carrier fighter from regular fighter, self-propelled artillery from a truck etc. I think it will be very cool for gameplay and not very difficult for devs to add motorised (truck-towed) variants to artillery models on the Tech screen.

Thank you for your attention :)

You don't need tech to tow a gun with a car. If you attach support arty/at to your motorized division it will be motorised as well.

Support battalions always move as fast as the slowest combat unit in the division

As I can see from WWW it is possible to add only one support artillery batallion to a division which is weaker than regular artillery. I want my Wehrmacht divisions to have superior firepower and I dont think that it is possible with only 1 art bat in division. In my opinion, it should be 1-2 art bat in every brigade (5-10 in division) to reach this goal.

Yep, there is fast motorized support Artillery, why is there no motorized Combat Battalion ( and Flak and AT ). With Rocket Artillery you simply research Mobile R-Art as a truck variant and done.

probably the first thing I will mod in...

MOT-Art would be nice.
But it should not be a different kind of equipment. The battalion should need art and trucks. Similar to MOT-Inf needing inf equipment and Trucks.

I think we were promised at least self-propelled artillery, but of course that's somewhat different.

As far as I'm aware, there is no motorised regular artillery (or AA or AT), only towed or self-propelled. However, I believe rocket artillery can be motorised, but with no option for a self-propelled version (aka on a tank chassis).

This was an issue for me too in HOI3. IIRC the ART in HOI4 has been referred to as "truck-towed" although I don't remember seeing any speed stats.

That might've been support artillery, which is by its small numbers always towed with whatever the division has with them.

There are two main types of Artillery: Self-propelled, and Towed. Towed Artillery are towed by horses or trucks. The only type of artillery that is carried/towed by soldiers are very lightweight models for paratrooper-units. (Likely in WW2 they mostly used mortars for this purpose.) The Germans, for instance mostly used horses to tow their artillery. Which makes sense since the horses can move at least as fast as a foot-infantry division. While truck-towed artillery can move at the same speed as a motorized division.

Some self-propelled artillery are modified trucks, most noteably different types of Rocket Artillery, (MLRS) which were produced in great quantities by the Soviets.

I haven't seen any other artillery than towed artillery which the devs have stated that IF it is attached as a support company it will be able to move at motorized speed. However if attached as a full battalion it will not? That seems strange. If there isn't an ability to assign trucks to towed artillery at the battalion level to keep it at the speed of a motorized infantry division that would be disappointing. It would however be very easy to mod in. Just as a unit type call motorized artillery with the equipment requirement of 24 guns + 24 trucks.

Should be in base game tho IMHO, but will definitively be my first mod if missing.

That's what people are saying: Artillery is moved at the same speed as the rest of the division, or with just a small penalty (more things needed to be moved = more congestion etc)

It's obvious that people can't drag those guns into battle themselves.

It's also obvious that it would be stupid to pull the artillery by horses if the rest of the division is motorized. And similary it is overkill to use trucks to move artillery while the rest of the division is walking. No need to really represent in detail WHAT dragged these specific artillery guns, since it would be obvious from the composition of the rest of the unit.

I'm fine with abstracting it that way. That may mean my first mod is just to increase the default speed of towed artillery to the speed of motorized infantry and add no equipment requirements since it will be towed by the motorized brigade's trucks. That way if it is in a motorized division it will not slow it down. However if it is with foot infantry the division still moves at foot infantry speed.

And Paratrooper artillery falls in this category of portable artillery.
Both special units could share this.

That would be modelled by the "Integrated support" doctrine from 3. It will be interesting to see how that's handled in 4. Probably just by allowing you to attach an artillery company to the paratroopers/mountain troops with no penalties.

Well, why not, we have pistols, SMGs, rifles, assault rifles, mortars, small calibre AT, small calibre artillery and small calibre AA lumped into infantry equipment.

I don't think that artillery's speed should be abstracted. There should be two different types of units with different IC cost: a regular artillery batallion which need only artillery as an equipment and a motorized version which need artillery+truck. That will lead a player to a hard choice: if you want to have a better units in your army, you should pay more for each and get less number of them as a result.
