The Plantoid Pack had a lot of negative feedback around the price, so im curious if Species Packs are still a thing now.

Sure, modders are now pretty good at creating animated portraits, ships and city types, but having something "official" would still be fun.
I wouldnt mind having for example Silicon Based Species, Mutants and other "unholy" beings, or Swarm-Type species

So are cosmetic packs still a thing, or were they canceled after the Plants?

I would like to have more portraits in the game, but for me it is very very secondary.
I'm the guy who thinks that all the time and effort should be put in the additions on the playable content, mechanics and polish the game, so no, I wish it did not happen

And yes, I know "The Art Department" works apart, but there are many things in which an art team can work =)
In fact, they are most likely working on a new pack now so don´t worry.

I foresee them becoming more commonly bundled with an expansion, similar to Crusader Kings 2. First, CK2 had individual portrait packs. Then they began to be released in content packs which bundled unit and portrait packs. Finally, in Monks and Mystics, the new portraits were included within the price of the expansion itself. In the future, we'll likely just purchase an expansion that includes or accompanies new portrait types, like how Humanoid Portraits were introduced alongside Leviathan.

I hope not as I would like to have my species packs as a separate download instead of bundled with an expansion.

Although I do see the benefit of having them bundled together.

Robots and cyborgs would be nice as a pack, as would etherals and psykers. Lots of work modifying existing portraits but it would be nice.
In general more races are always nice, it adds variety to the galaxy. Especially if they can improve diplomacy (the more interesting other empires get the more you care about how they look).

Packs that added more inter race variety would be awesome once they do an expansion which improves leaders.
