from what I've seen and heard this game was a complete bomb, I'm never seen such a title with as many forlorn customers as rome, which is precisely the reason I never got around to purchasing it. I played it at a friends house a while ago, he offered to give it to me for free(his copy, he didn't want it), but, I honestly had no interest. So much supposed to be going on yet, nothing really is, nothing matters, Its rough.

I agree with the first post. There are simply too many things broken in EU:R. My mods were essentially bugfixes, so without couple more patches (and, preferably, expansitons) this game won't see much life. Some EU3:IN mechanics (like missions) would do much good, so hopefully they are working on it.

It needs a political system. I'd only buy an expansion if some of sort senate, political intrigue system was implemented.

Good to hear Paradox is working on a patch though. It was so quiet in this forum I thought they had given up on this game.

And I remember the forum mod trash-talking reviewers that pointed out just how problematic it was. In hindsight, the extreme defensiveness was kind of amusing, but it wasn't, at the time.

Never did like Vicky. Rome is way ahead of that on numerous counts.

Already working on that one with a mod that could arrive within a few months. Don't worry, there will be ambitious mods that inspire a lot of people to pick this game back up again.

Because it has to be said each time somebody bashes Vicky.

It is one of the best games ever made by Paradox. Beats HoI-series by several leagues. Hell in many ways it is still better than EU3. Sure it had its drawbacks and launch bugs, and it took me a couple of tries to get over the steep learning curve. Once you get there though the depth of the game is very enjoyable. And despite the claims that Vicky is micromanagement heavy it is far lighter than the HoI-series IMHO.

Yep, dito. Currently, I'm too displeased with PIs performance with EU:R, that I did not buy they EU:IN. If EU:R is not fixed, I'm sure I will never buy an expansion, to me that would be a rip off, especially since I already spent $50 for a game that doesn't actually work the way it should.

You're only hurting yourself not buying IN...it's that good man. :)

I remember getting Vicky when it came out, it was probably the buggiest Paradox game I ever played at release. But you could see the potential for greatness in it. And it slowly turned into my favorite game from Paradox.

Rome was just disappointing. It lacked the scope, the breadth, the grandiose of past Paradox games. It seems like a dumbed down version of EU and CK combined into one.

Patches won't fix some of the underlying problems, I think it's only hope to become a great game would be a Revolutions like expansion that changes some of the fundamentals of game play.

Oh yeah, buy IN. It's worth it.

In other words, because people from time to time mention that they don't like Vicky at all, you have to reply each time that you do? There are games I love, but I at least don't feel it necessary to jump to their defense every time somebody attacks them. I figure the world's big enough to hold more opinions than just my own. You should try it, sometime. ;)

Just FYI, I played Vicky, and played it...and really hated the menu system, and especially the stiffness of historical events that triggered despite the fact that the game's reality no longer bore the slightest resemblance to them, whatsoever. But de gustibus, as a friend of mine points out. :D

Well... I'm just very defensive about Vicky since she has received a lot of undeserved bashing. Vicky and CK remains the most innovative paradox games since EU1. Both have room for improvement but I can't think of a computer game that hasn't.

As I play mostly along plausible lines myself Vicky rarely diverged a lot from the historical lines. Even more rarely to the point where the events seemed totally out of place. Sure it happened... but with better triggers it wouldn't have happened. Historical events doesn't have to be badly scripted you know. ;)
