Will there be bigger galaxy sizes?

Last I heard they were testing how far they could go in terms of performance, but don't you think 1000 stars are enough?

People probably wouldn't think 10,000 is enough. Someone always wants more.

Well, I don't see what's wrong with a couple of more stars, say 2'000.. nobody is asking for 500 billion realism stuff

Distant Worlds had up to 1400 stars. We want MOAR!
Distant worlds uses sprites which are far easier to render. Plus, DW is a completely different game with a different engine and different time complexities.

Performance and the game engine care. This isn't an issue of just not wanting more stars. It's a performance limitation.

I mean, it isn't a problem to just let the game generate 1000 stars.
However, I doubt the Pentagon would lend you their supercomputer just to play Stellaris.

Mods might be able to unlock the size, I guess. It just won't be officially supported.
They have to set the size in such a way, that even weaker CPUs can run the largest galaxies. So if you have a powerful CPU, you might be able to run with larger galaxies.

Again, the OP asked very politely if there is a possibility for more stars in the future. Neither did he mention 500 billion stars nor did he demand someones supercomputer. Really, no need to be so confrontative...

That's what mods are for. Or the developer offer that bigger option with a caution advise.

1,000 is a nice neat number that the devs have tested and proven for stability, so I'm fine with that being the vanilla limit as long as those of us who aren't still running toasters are allowed to increase that cap in the defines.lua file.

One thing to remember is that too wide a range on the galaxies will eventually break game balance(unless other changes are also made). For example, in a large enough galaxy you might have enough resources to research all the non-procedural techs by midgame.

They didtched the. lua file format from what recall but that doesn't mean there won't be a defines equivalent using some other file format.

I do recall hearing / reading somewhere that they were testing for more than 1000 stars, but don't recall where I saw that. :/
And, I may be totally off on that recollection.

It depends on your computer and the engine limitations I suppose. Like the cities skylines mod that allows for 25 tiles instead of 9.
