Right now, there are no armor guards, no sabatons, no greaves/jambeau. And those knee pads are not strapped.

I get that you don't see legs that often on character screens, but still, feels like cut corner.

Cut content you say? Well then, we'll be seeing a new flavor pack for that coming in the next few months. Oh, you said cut corner? Nevermind then, no leg armor for you!

The leg armour is accurate for the time period, though plate greaves and other types of knee protection did exist. The type of knee plate shown was probably either linked directly to the mail rings around it or tied on with laces through the rings behind it. I'd post image references, but the spam filter's not having it. I found effigies with that kind of knee protection between 1250 and 1350, and there are later armours (eg. Ottoman) with the same idea.

As far as I'm aware, sabatons only come in later. You see bits of plate in the first half of the 1300s, more complete armour including sabatons in the second half. As for looking like footie pajamas, the Middle Ages were effectively a millennium long pajama party.

I don't agree.

The armour in the preview video is clearly based on tombstone of Otto von Orlamünde.

And on Otto's tombstone, you can see plate leg armours and sabatons:

More variety wouldn't hurt, but there was a lot of overlap with armour styles in that period, which isn't helped by the fact that the armour down to the knee tends to be hidden under surcoats etc. at the time. The tombstone of Otto von Orlamünde seems to be dated to 1340, while the latest example I found of the floating knee plate is an effigy of Thomas de Astley from 1345.

If the internet is informing me correctly, that particular artwork is from 1340, so that agrees with Gnomey's timeline pretty well - the armor they're representing on the body is from a later period than the legs, but the legs are actually the bit more relevant to the game's primary timeframe.

Hey, I can post the images now, so might as well do it in case anyone's interested. As I said, though, I'd also like to see more variety in leg defences, I just wanted to clarify that the floating knee plates shown look accurate to the period.

I wouldn't be surprised if the developers referenced this image for the knee plate:
