I'm super excited to do a mega-campaign of Imperator -> CK2 -> EU4 and maybe Stellaris if I can unite the planet before the end of EU4.

That's one big project :)

You aren't thinking big enough. Imperator (which will probably end up abbreviated as Imp:R, I:R, RomII, or something like that) -> CK2 -> EU4 -> Vicky 2 -> HOI4 -> Stellaris. With some self-balkanization when you come too close to conquering the world, of course.

As for a time gap, I am sure end date extensions are in the works, as each game shortens in it's time span covered. Thus, this should be the longest game yet if trends continue. I'm hoping from 330 BC to 732 CE (battle of tours), but this feels unrealistic in the extreme. I am definitely banking on an end date extention at least to 476 CE, as this *is* technically a rome game.

IR -> WTWSMS -> EU4 -> Vic2 -> HOI4 -> Stellaris is the god tier game list

WTWSMS mod is already configured to work with Ck2-EU4 converter (And works with the Vic2 converter too), and it starts at 476

The Roman Empire falls in 1453 though :p.

Honestly, the mechanics of the game should work to model the era up to about Charlemagne just about right. If Paradox isn't gonna do it, then mods surely will (WTWSMS II, maybe?)

Paradox will almost certainly not do it, but hopefully mods might find a way.
Step 1: Imperator Rome mod that extends the timeline to 769 A.D.
Step 2: Someone mods a coverter for the games
Step 3: Play an ultra mega campaign extending across over 2000 years of history

Step 1: create a mod for Imperator Rome that start in 224 AVC (530 BC) and play up to the existence of two very well established monotheist religions.
Step 2: convert to Crusader Kings's When the world stopped making sense and let it go up to the moment a power holding a port on the Atlantic reach the 8th level in both shipbuilding and trade practice
Step 3: convert to Europa Universalis and let it go up to the first Revolution striking a major power.
Step 4: convert to a 18th up to 20th century mod for Victoria, let it go up to the first industrialised Great War.
Step 5: convert to a Great War up to Modern days mod for Hearts of Iron. Go up to the existence of only one major faction and the first manned mission to Mars.
Step 6: convert to Stellaris's Primitive Players mod and play until the end...

You are perhaps ten years older than when starting the campaign ;)
