In hoi3 you were always stuck with the person the game gave you at the beginning for the head and 2nd-in-command. It was always annoying when you got a "pig-headed isolationist" or if you wanted to align to a different political party. Paradox said that revolutions can be staged in HOI4, would it be better if you could choose your own head of state?

Yes. Republicans win election: FDR is still president and I just reappoint my old ministers.
In HoI IV leaders change depending on your ideology. For example, in the world war wednesday streams we saw that the trotsky plot was a success and Trotsky replaced Stalin in the Soviet Union. In the US the republicans won the election and FDR was replaced by Alf Landon.

Weren't the Democrats and the Republicans both part of the "democracy" ideology? Or has that been changed?

republicans are considered democratic in the game (by the time of the second world war wednesday stream). The US democratic party changes from democrats to republicans if i understand Johan correctly in the video. I guess there is simply an chance for either FDR being reelected or Alf taking over.

If we are looking at ideologies, Would make more sense to make Stalin fascist than Trotsky. Basically Trotsky was Lenins golden boy and Stalin power-played to install himself as leader of the USSR by playing the other politburo members against the favourite then moving himself into play before they realised what happened.
Stalin then started his cult of personality and started to implement all the totalitarian ideals which made him just like the fascists. So him and Hitler were brothers from another mother.
Trotsky was the guy who led the revolution in Russia whilst Lenin was in Switzerland, giving Lenin the power when he got there.
Yeah, I disagree with him being fascist, makes no sense.
Would have liked to see a Communist Russia under Trotsky as a game to pull off, but the idea that he would be in the same boat with people ideologically different makes the idea less appealing. Would rather have him heading the democracy faction, it is closer ideologically. I am guessing HoI doesn't have 3's multiparty.

@Tiaexz i am just repeating something johan said in the streams, where they were told by the russian comunity members that trotsky would be considered facist since he would be anti-socialist. As i said, i have no knowlege about that topic myself. I'll simply stay out of any arguments since that never ends good anyway.

@Tiaexz Well, gotta go with one version of the story. Those topics are always really bad since everyone has an different oppinion and things get blurry depending of the point of view. Overall, propaganda and censorship was heaviely used around the globe that time by all nations involved. For stalin basicly everyone against him was a fascist.
If you get really deep into it fascism and nationalsocialism arent the exact same thing. Both share some similarities (overall they are both pretty horrible) but at their core are very different, atleast if you compare the german nationalsocialism with the italian fascism of that time. And still germany most of the time is reffered to as fascists, just as in HoI IV. I am certainly not going into detail about the differences between those two for obvious reasons.

I'm assuming Johan is referring to Stalin position on Trotsky rather than any actual serious arguments made for Trotsky to be Facist. The idea that Trotsky was anti-socialist is obviously nonsense that was promulgated by Stalin to justify socialism in one country against the leninist/trotskyite calls for continual world revolution.
