No, there wont be any demos by Paradox before launch anymore. BjornB apperiently posted a very detailed statement that they wont do them anymore since they take time and money to maintain and that the new steam refund system is a better replacement.

There won't be a demo. Our previous experiences has shown that it doesn't work well at all for us with our expansion and patching policy.

Same goes for Stellaris obivously.

To have a demo is a perfectly reasonable request and we would love to do it. But the harsh truth is that making a demo, and most of all maintaining it, is a lot of work and cost resources. In the past we failed at this and the demos generated more complaints than value I think, so we decided that the resources are better spent elsewhere. Not all will agree ofc, and I respect that. It's our decision however.

We hope that with Steam's more generous refund policies and the option to do free weekends, there will be satisfactory replacements. I hope you will accept this reasoning, even if you don't agree.

The devs have already said in the past that demos don't work with their DLC Policy and thus they don't do demos anymore. On can reasonable infer from such a statement that it also includes pre-release demos, which would be akin to releasing in Early Access which is another thing that Paradox does not plan to do.

In short the answer is no.

Well, I know this much: The AI is supposed to be able to adapt to what the player does. So, if you're in historical mode, and you stray off the historical path, the AI might change their own path accordingly, but they shouldn't do it otherwise. In ahistorical mode, I believe anything goes.

Demo's are also big risks for income since alot of pirates can unlock assets and pretty much modify them into a type of release of the game since for the game to be a decent demo most or all of the assets need to be in the game

I doubt piracy's a concern. I think the dev quote above rather puts it finely. It's rather pointless from a demo standpoint. It simply doesn't give you anything..it only gives the community something really. I can see the logic. A demo of a grand strategy game is strange. It's not about a 5 second pop off. It's a long term thing with investment.

Well to have a demo i imagine it would need to be a separate build of the game and it would be developed in parallel with the game. Plus if assets and systems are removed from the demo for it to be different new errors and bugs might come up that arent in the main build of the game
