I sure hope so. More depth, in a clever way, is exactly what HoI 4 seems to need (from the limited information we have), in my opinion.

If not black ice by name or the same publisher, there will be a similar mod. Every Paradox game has that one mod that stands head and shoulders above the rest. Although alot of the stuff from it won't be as useful, like having a million variants of everything, since you'll be hesitant to waste a factories efficiency to put out a small number of specialty divisions ships or planes. Although, having 15 factories pumping out waffen ss or army rangers would be pretty epic.

I'd rather play an HPP hoi4 mod :p

As much as I want to like BIce because of the variety of unit types, interesting new systems, and I really like how divisions get their historical symbols...

My gawd is it a lot of work. Soooooo many research options, much more units to handle ergo more OOB management, and worse: The game artificially nerfs and buffs nations purely for historical reasons.

No matter how well prepared you are as France by 1939, you get punishing penalties to morale, soft/hard damage, organization, and so on by -20%. But Germany? +25% attack speed for example :/

The variants might be integrated into the "improvement levels" so when you update your production you will stop doing Pk. 39 to Pk. 40 for example (switching improvement 1 into 2 i mean). Then, if needed because resources, switch to Pk.39 because is cheaper. Maybe that "speciality" you talk about can be actually done in-game. There's the division designer where you can choose which equipment each get, you can do like 5 or 8 (around 50k soldiers) special SS forces which only needs the production of 2 or 3 factories. What do you think?

Indeed. Honestly just limiting the number of variants they produced might have helped Germany significantly.

Yeah I completely screwed up what I was talking about lol. Idk why I was saying units use factories to be built so you're right, but if there's tons of different planes and tank variations it would still apply, although having more options per year for stuff like light fighters would be cool. Since most people would probably just focus on one instead of building a couple of every one. I wish there was a special forces unit in the vanilla game that was just basically a badass infantry division, maybe with higher night fighting abilities and such.

As well as the entire v2 program, which costed sooo much, and ended up killing less than 1 person per rocket launch, as well as a lot more of the German laborers dying than enemies killed by rockets... Germany's advantage in technology was kind of their Achilles heel. If they scrapped all of their secret weapons, put out a tank that wasn't as good as their historical tanks, but was much cheaper and easier to make, there may be a Hitler statue in Moscow today. Look at the Americans...our most common tank was garbage but was so numerous, reliable and cheap that they basically flooded the battlefield.

The Germans, if i'm not misunderstood, told manufacturers to create the best military equipment (arms, tanks and so). Manufacturers competed against each other very efficiently (they are germans anyway) so the best idea will come into production for a period of time until another come up with a new thing which surpassed the one in production, but it's all up to you to switch or not. Anyways, it's your war and you manage it as you see fit.

Re: American armor

That said, yes, one of the biggest advantages that Germany has when played by a human is that they can avoid all the wasted resources that the Nazis threw at various stupid things.

Exactly. When Germany was surrounded by countries building easy to build tanks in huge numbers, they should have realized that having a great heavy tank isn't going to stop a country that can throw 10 similar tanks against you...I would have taken the panther or even the panzer 4 ot something else similar to the t34(or even start reproducing t34s from captured tanks lol), found a way to streamline many of its features, and have 90 percent of my tank factories start an assembly line on them.

Take the Panzer IV, slope the armor, put the Panther gun in, done. If the Panther gun won't fit then go without, the only tank that NEEDS the Panther gun would be the IS tanks on the Eastern Front, so just send your Tigers over there.

For the Tiger as well, instead of making the Tiger 2 just slope the armor and try to squeeze some more power out of the 88.

Even if there isn't one, I'll definitely be working on a realism/balance mod. If it's good enough I'll release it, but I'm really thinking of my enjoyment right now, after seeing how strangely the different countries' have been treated (especially minors) with their possible capabilities and industrial capacity.

Quite frankly I can't understand the level of worship this mod creates. Maybe it's because I only started to try and play it recently, but I found it completely impenetrable.

The tech system is a mess of confusing requirements and features such highlights as "increase air attack of fighters from 10.00 to 10.05". In BICE, infantry regiments don't use rifles, but engineers do. Researching new AA ammunition makes your trucks worse.

The introduction of unique unit counters has effectively rendered parts of the game entirely unusable (mostly the statistics tab) and made trying to grasp the overall situation much harder. Is that jumping deer a panzer division or an infantry division? Who knows!

The mod is deeply unbalanced and I'm inclined to think that the only people who disagree play Germany predominantly. I've watched a single German infantry division walk into 5 entrenched French divisions and beat them with minimal casualties while the rest of the German army broke through the Maginot line (in fairness, that one cost them hundreds of thousands of casualties).
