I dont know if there's any point in buing DLC for this game if performance is so bad I cant enjoy late game. I never finished even 1 game on map bigger then medium because of lags.

yes, the late game performance is really horrendous. I have the feeling that it became even worse with the 2.2 update

edit: the current "stellaris_test" branch(2.2.2) improves the performance a lot though. Feels like twice as fast compared to 2.2.1

They've identified one of the main bugs regarding late game performance issues - normal gateways. For now, use the 0 setting for gateways (L-gates and wormholes are fine) and don't build them in game.

Opt into the Beta, it's buttery smooth all game long, even lategame with a massive empire, 20 planets and a fleet over 1100. It is so good now ;D
Eh, it's not THAT good, but it's a definite improvement over vanilla.
Of course, this just means evidence that Paradox can fix many of these problems by the end of January. Hell, maybe we will get the scarily competent 1.9 AI by March (they got a flavor pack to do next, so the major diplo expansion probably won't be until the summer)

My performance is just as bad even with the patch. Massive slowdowns around 2360 and its the same with all my friends?

Are we playing the same version or have they added more changes in the last 24 hours?

No, the slowdown by the mid 2300's is normal. It's just that the stuttering in the early game has been ironed out a bit (though still there).

Edit: I do not have any gateways. That might be the reason I haven't noticed the daily slowdown on ticks. I do have significant slowdown @ end of year / save time.

Performance here is ok, except for the moments it autosaves or whatever is going on then. Game halts as if it's locked up. Then after 30 seconds or even more it continues. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. And sometimes it never seems to recover. It's also speed related.

Yeah, I'm in the beta and my late game is quite slow. Not a great PC -- i7-3770 -- but it used to work well enough.

People are disagreeing with what happens on my system? Weird I haven't seen you guys here Just joking. To clarify further, I have a Ryzen 2700X and as I said, performance is ok until late game. Then I get these long lockups. Haven't seen anyone else mention those specific events. Anyone gets those? Often at the end/start of a new year.

There's a known major bug with gateways and trade routes right now that heavily impacts performance. They are working on it.

Late game it gets choppier. Scrolling around the galaxy and trying to click to select becomes laggy if the game is on fast or fastest. If I pause, and then do the upgrades, selecting, etc. it's smooth and no issues navigating around. I have a i7 hexcore machine.

I see lots of people saying "they're working on it" but not many people asking how in gods name this ever made it past QA to begin with?

It's easy to say "don't worry it'll be fixed soon" but it's almost 2 weeks post release and even after two patches the game is still unplayable and will probably remain that way until at least after the Christmas holidays. That's a ridiculous amount of time I've been unable to use something I paid good money for. If this was any other product we'd have seen mass returns by now. And what happens during the next patch? Is the cycle of poor performance going to repeat all over again, we keep telling them the core game is in desperate need of optimization and multi-threading and patch after patch we see performance issues that get fixed on our dime. Are you telling me a company that turns over $90 million a year can't afford to hire a few people who know how to deal with multi-threading, so they can finally put these issues to bed?

This isn't good enough, I refuse to accept shoddy products from companies like EA, Bethesda and Activision, so I certainly won't accept it from Paradox just because they're a smaller company.

Everything has been running so much more slowly than it used to, even in the beginning. Speed 3 is like old speed 2.

Despite liking a lot of the changes, this particular thing has been a huge disappointment because getting rid of tiles was supposedly supposed to improve performance. I know it's a bug with the gateways though so hopefully it gets fixed soon. It's been a bitttt better since the beta patch update. So we'll see.

It's not a multithreading issue. The problem is entirely bad algorithms. That's unfortunate, and definitely shows they could use some QA changes. Namely to test for more cases, though I can see that issue getting through.

Nor is it a case where throwing money at the problem will necessarily see a fix. Just not how the industry works. It's a fundamental issue with fixing the process more than anything.

Yes the problem is bad algorithms that are maxing out the single core they're using. Bad algorithms should never be a thing, but if the game were multithreaded the stress from that bad coding would be spread across multiple cores meaning we'd be less likely to suffer bottlenecking like we're seeing in 2.2.2. As for testing for more cases, the performance and AI issues aren't exactly something you can just play through the game and miss. At the very best, this was tested, performance issues were spotted and they made the active decision to proceed to launch anyway and fix the problems on our dime to rake in some Christmas money. At worst, this wasn't tested at all.

And yes throwing money at a problem can fix it, because money buys expertise.
