Hello, PDX fans and devs! I really enjoyed yesterday's announcement, all aboard the hype train! Anyway, I am creating this thread so the community can discuss their thoughts about the Empire of Brazil in the game. It would be lovely to see also the devs getting some inspiration from this post. I hope we will be able to see a much more flavored Brazil already in the base game when it launches in comparison to Vicky 2!
I mean, PDX has been including Portuguese-Brazilian translation in their new and most recent games and based on the devs desire to improve gameplay for the world outside Europe in the new Vicky 3, I think they will give the single monarchy in the Americas a lot of events, unique groups of interest (political parties?), decisions, etc. What I really want to be able to do as Brazil in the game is to change the historical path of the country, heavily industrialise it and turn it into a great power but that was little bit difficult in the previous game. So, I am curious to see if we are going to have any sort of new systems or decisions to improve our country's backwardness, precarious infrastructure and lack of resources. I have so many questions, because we don't know a lot about the different game's systems yet... and I think those questions should also apply to other potential great powers or even potential secondary powers that don't have a good starting position in 1836 , didn't have a marvelous time nor grew a lot during the XIXth century, such as Persia, Vietnam, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, China, Poland, Greece, etc.
Anyway, I think Brazil had a lot of potential to grow in this time period. I hope we can decide to invest in changing some of the raw resources that our provinces produce, in attracting immigrants by offering them cheap land, in making deals/trade routes to import essential industrial resources (Brazil doesn't have a lot of coal, for example), in creating a better national educational system, etc. Of course, to be able to change your country's background by that much you will need a lot of money, probably from a very rich Great Power eager to have a South American partner or a counterpart to USA's hegemony over the Americas? We will also need support inside our political system and the interest groups.
Besides that, in 1836, Brazil was a very young nation: it went through an independence war, a war against uruguayans (Cisplatina). Also, by the year the game starts the country was in a regency and it had a lot of revolts and civil wars going on. To sum up, I hope playing as Brazil (or any sort of minor or secondary power with considerable potential) will be a lot of fun.
I hope we have a nice discussion here, I am a Brazilian historian, so it would be nice to share and learn anything with you guys!
