I wouldn't count anything out... after all, there were invasion plans for Sweden, it's just that the tide was turning and thereby saved our soil from German bombs, troopers and "whatnot". There was also an event where the allies denied Swedish ships departure from an Icelandic harbour... and, supposedly, that brought us very close to a war against the western alliance. In fact, I think Sweden got fairly close to war with each of the three power blocks (the commies, the fascists and the capitalists).

Wasn't Sweden also semi-involved in the Winter War (on the Finnish side, a battalion of volunteers and a fighter squadron)? Plus hosting the Danish Brigade afer the Danish Army was disarmed in 1943. Any political simulation worth its salt should recognize Swedish genius in maneuvering between the political extremes throughout the war, and then still influencing policy (Wallenberg rescue trip to Hungary, Himmler surrender negotiations, etc.).

Sweden in WW2

The only reason that the Swedes never joined World War 2 was because they kept waiting for when Germany was powerful and secure enough to ally with.

They just kept holding their breath through that whole North Africa, Barbarossa campaign thing and by the time they realized their Nazi pals were screwed, they decided to stick neutral ;).

That is totaly untrue, from our horizon they seemed secure enough in the begining. Any thougt aboout joining the axis side more or less dissaperad after April 9th 1940.

Hardly, most of the goverment would have nothing to do with the nazis if they could make a choice. But most of them liked the communists even less so they did the smart thing. Sat on the side and watched and when someone demanded something of them they refused if they could and if not accepted and kept their heads low. Perhaps not the most honourable thing to do but then it´s easy to speak of such things when you are a major power and not surrounded by stronger neighbours.

Seriously, if Sweden has anything more than average potential in HOI, I won't be happy. That would be silly.

I seriously doubt that Paradox will make Sweden a major power in HOI. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind leading a swedish D-day operation :D

Yeah, you are correct. What saved Sweden, was that the majority of the politicians were against german influence. Many in the swedish military wanted to join regardless.

Anyway, I still feel Sweden has many dirty facts from WW2 they have not dealt with, but kept "hidden", ie, many Norwegian refugees that fled to Sweden were handed directly to the Germans, part of the German invasion of Norway used Swedish railroads to move up the land, many swedes fought for Germany, especially on the soviet front.

But of course, you could say they did what was in their best interest, to avoid war, the the fact is, Sweden was nothing much than a puppet of Germany, being pro-germany in the begining, and would in all likelyhood joined the third reich had they suceeded. When things started to look grim for the germans, the Swedish attitude changed.

My point is, Sweden were not the kind helpful neutrals that most think they were, but then again, they did do what they thought was in their best interest, to avoid war. What good is honor if you're dead..?

The soviet union requested (AFTER the war) that some hundred refugees from the baltics should be handed to them. Sweden agreed! AFTER the end of the war! Swedens military power had now grown to a repectabel level and they were abel to put power behind their words. And yet they do this, very week indeed.
