Will Poland ever cede Danzig?

I'd love for Poland to cede Danzig, that way I can take all of Poland for myself, build up some fortifications (excuse me for if there are no fortifications in HoI, HoI IV will be the first HoI game I'll play) along the Vistula, of course while encircling Königsberg, and wait till that pig Hitler comes to me, so that I may show him what Uncle Joe and his Red Army can do.

Basically what the title asks. Do you think AI Poland will ever agree to cede Danzig. If they do what do you imagine the next step for Germany is. Declare war on Poland anyway? Live happy under the unified German lands?

You know, on rethinking this issue, the key really is the British/French. If the British/French do not support Poland, then ceding Danzig becomes much more possible.

The question then is whether or not the Germans stop at Danzig, and the after-effects of the prestige hit to Britain/France for selling out another country.

plus after WWII, Operation Unthinkable was centered around liberating poland, which was the original goal going into WWII. Poland was just well and truly screwed no matter what would've happened.

and even with Czechoslovakia, while they did turn their backs on an ally (mainly out of complacency and pragmatism), you have to admit it was a pretty freaking stupid alliance to begin with.

strategic warfare lesson number one: distant landlocked allies suck as allies. especially when their enemy is adjacent to 3/4 of their border.

Well, that might not be really true. Italians and Poles fought in each other's independence wars, in the 19th century, they quote each other in their anthems, Italy was the first nation to recognize Polish independence and in general relations have always been very tight.

Poland should never give up Danzig. Poland needs Danzig far more than what Germany needs it. Without a trade port, the Polish economy would be extremely crippled. Same thing with Upper Silesia, they contain coal mines which were given to Poland after WWI so that it could have some sort of economic backbone. Germany has plenty of mines near the Rhine valley. A Poland without Danzig or Upper Silesia would have been a useless and weak state.


Gemany was upset because the corridor:

1) Made it an inconvenience to get to East Prussia.
2) Felt the Treaty of Versailles' conditions were unfair and that Germany had to have the main blame (anything that was asked for by the treaty was seen as unfair by Germany).

If Poland is part of the Axis, and has full commerce and trading rights with Axis ports, then the need for Danzig (or even the resources of Upper Silesia) is lessened considerably. More-so, if Danzig means simply Danzig and not the entirety of the Polish corridor, it would just lead to even further development of Gdynia. In 1938, according to the Wiki page, Gdynia was responsible for 46% of all Polish foreign trade; not bad for port that was only conceived in the end of 1920.

Not saying that it would necessarily be a fair trade, but abandoning the prospect of industry for protection from the Soviets and potential gains in the East might be tempting to some.

I dont understand why everybody talks about invading the SU after a pact with Poland. Why not conquer France first, eliminating the threat in the west?
Polish troops/generals coult be used as support and gain some field experience (and history shows they really really needed that). And after the swift victory build up and invade SU from the polish borders, which might be enough to reach and take Moskau and Leningrad in the first year.

Land locked? You know that the little entente resulted in an alliance between France, Yugoslavia, Romania and Czechoslovakia, and Romania borders Czechoslovakia, so France could've sent troops through Romania

i was referring to czechoslovakia specifically, as the little entente never really materialized against the thing it was made specifically to keep from happening when it was needed, and because the UK and france were on he wrong side of a continent and 2 major enemies.

though lets face it, considering the placement of yugoslavia and romania and their not exactly top-tier navies (and that france showed support after the alliance was formed) the LE might as well have been landlocked.
