Hi Paradox.

I use a wacom tablet because I got an injury. Will hearts of iron 4 support wacom pen and tablet as a mouse alternative? Lot of people have computer related injuries, which they solved by abandoning the mouse for other more sensible methods of point and click.

It's very easy to support this tech, it would make a world of difference. Thanks.

What do you mean by support exactly? As far as I am aware, my Wacom tablet is accepted as an input device by any program that runs, as long as Windows understands that it's there. Now the extra functionality like buttons on the tablet itself and such might not convey any additional functionality to the game. But the basic input meaning: Panning the camera, clicking and right clicking are emulated by Windows, so it should work on that level.

I'd suggest you try it with Hearts of Iron 3, since you own that one. If it works there, it'll 100% work with HoI 4

I don't have the previous game installed, plus even though it works on hoi3, isn't a guarantee it will work on hoi4. For example, different company, but pen and tablet is supported on all Total War Games, except Rome 2 Total War, and the Atilla Expansion. The weird thing is that the pen and tablet worked for the first 4 patches, now you can't click anything with it..

Official word from paradox would be greatly appreciated. Supporting the pen and tablet for hoi4 would be easy, and make a lot of people able to enjoy this game. I know I can never go back to a mouse, and a trackball, is hard to play with.

Well, as I've said, Windows usually just simulates basic input as mouse input in programs that don't support it natively. Don't know what's going on with Total War there. I do hope you get your answer (and a positive one, too)! I feel as gaming evolves, companies that take a stance on supporting such requests early might be in a great advantage over those who don't.

Thanks.

You guys should give it a try at Paradox HQ. I used to do a lot of computer work for my job, lot of mouse work. Then one day, boom, injury. It's been a year now, and I still can't use a mouse. Wacom tablet let me use the computer again, plus a trackball. I use both left and right hands during the day for computer work. Tablet and pen is way safer than a mouse. Mouse is the worst invention, it artificially stretches your forearm muscles in the most awkward position and then you make tiny movements all day, for those with small hands, its suicide.

I wouldn't want anyone at Paradox to lose their job at the best gaming company in the world, because of a problem over-using the mouse. :(

TBH most of our 2d/3d has a wacom + mouse, personally i stick to keyboard _only_ and seldom use point devices at all at work but i can say that I would like a 100% adoption for battleplans etc (do not know how it works right now) for touch screen or touch sensitive devices.

"Attila expansion" lol.

But seriously, this seems like a no brainer. It's also a bit more comfy in my opinion,

It works fine :) it can be a bit wonky in special cases, when it comes to zooming in and out with the tablet for example. I haven´t tried to actually play the game with pen and tablet only though, my guess is that you´ll have to experiment abit with how you map the different functions to the pen and tablet to find out your prefferred way to play the game
