I am not talking about 5 on 5 division battles with 20k casualties but I am talking about 15 on 15 battles with upwards of 100k losses. I played HoI3 and rarely had massive battles with any losses. I would like to see where if both sides have large quantities of troops stacked up on the battlefield and slug it out with insane losses like Stalingrad, Leningrad, Kursk, Battle of the Bulge, and El Aleimen, etc. Will there be a special feature for these types of battles or no?

Then you weren't really trying hard enough. Or you were so good you could avoid attrition battles and run with far more graceful encirclements.

It all comes down to terrain, doctrine and the size of your divisions of course. You could have a few huge divisions or alot smaller specialized ones. Terrain and doctrines determine the battle widht, which limits the amount of divisions fighting at the same time. Every extra divisions will be set as reserves and have a chance to reinforce every day (can be improved by signal companies) once there is room at the front of course.

Sure, you can throw 40 divisions at the enemy, but only so much can actively fight at the same time. The battle might go on for very long if both sides have plenty of reserves available, but they wont fight all at once. You cant simply overrun your enemy with untrained hordes of recruits in mountains or forrests of course.

this time around , i played two games. two games in a world populated by around twenty players, controlling all of the major powers and some minor players. the first time around, i was outside the main theater, attempting to transform brazil into a major power. when that world tore itself apart, i picked japan in a draft and set about taming the russian bear with a little help from my friends.

hearts of iron makes army management a joy, which is very good news considering how much there is to manage once the battle is joined. this is a game where hundreds of division will do battle along a single front , and you can try and micro manage each one. but it's far easier , and more enjoyable , to give your army some structure and ai management with the tools in hearts of iron 4.

I remember when I started playing HoI 3 that, playing as Japan, and having no idea that it wasnt a good move to take a million men in Vietnam due to logistic reasons, I attacked a very big chinese massing of troops near Saigon. The battle for the pocket raged for months (because, again, I had no idea about the peanalties for attcking with too many units), with units out of supply, or org, and with no way to get it back due to low supplies. After improving my suppliy situation (it took a few months) I finally won. The chinese had almost half a million casualties. I had around 250.000, iirc.

Large battles and losses, over a lengthy period, was possible in HoI 3. If an attack breaks down, you can attack again a week later. Historically the battle of Stalingrad can be regarded as several attacks/offensives breaking down. It was not one consistent battle. The Germans and Russians would take turns attacking
