Makes far more sense for it not to. Historically, Ireland was a dominion for the '36 start (British puppet), and had no formal claims. It made its formal claims again in the '37 constitution, on becoming independent.

So, I would say no for '36, yes for '39, and yes if Ireland from a '36 start becomes free.

considering ireland had N. Ireland as a core in HOI 3, i wouldn't be surprised if its claims make a comeback.

I disagree. It would make far more sense if they did have a claim because you have to think about the in-game consequences of claims. Claims have an impact in manpower you get from the region, cost of taking it etc.

Certain places, especially with either long standing claims or recent claims should of course be in game: North Ireland-Ireland, Corsica-Italy, Parts of Turkey-Greece etc.

Particularly any place with active movements at the time seeking to integrate or annex them.

I disagree. It would make far more sense if they did have a claim because you have to think about the in-game consequences of claims.

The consequences of claims? Yes, cores, representing areas where people won't feel like they're being occupied because they feel like they're part of your nation already. Eliminates partisan activity and so on.

Yeah, nobody should have a claim on Northern Ireland. Britain owns it, you get the Catholics causing merry hell day in day out. The Republic owns it, you get the Protestants causing merry hell day in day out. The mechanics were actually the first thing I thought of, and the reason I said "no". Then I remembered that it gives you an easier DoW and so on, so that was my reason for saying that it could get them after splitting off.

Cores arent something you suddenly get. You either start with them or you dont have them. If you seriously saying they shouldnt add them in the 1936 start but in the 1939 start, then that is a really weird logic. Northern Ireland should be a core for ireland, just as posen and danzig are cores for germany and southern slovakia, transilvania and croatia are hungarian cores.

If and how ireland actually claims them is a whole different story of course.

i seriously doubt such a minor thing will be represented ingame. Ireland is already extant in the game in 1936, is guaranteed to have cores on it's northern sibling, and is not going to pose a threat to the UK except in ahistorical mode with some constant and intense player interference. ireland has always claimed northern ireland. a 1937 reaffirmation of that means absolutely nothing. especially since non-majors don't have unique national trees.

Ireland's simply not going to be accurately represented at all on release.

For a start Ireland doesn't exist in 1936, the Irish Free State does. Éire comes into existence in December 1937 which is still, kinda/technically/ish a British Dominion. There's no Irish claim on Northern Ireland until December 1937. The Irish Free State didn't claim Northern Ireland, at all. In fact, its own constitution was specifically written to allow Northern Ireland to secede if it wanted (an option it exercised). It would be beyond bizarre for the Free State to start with a claim to Northern Ireland when it had explicitly said that it had no claim to it.

It would probably make more sense to represent Ireland's constitutional change with National Focuses. With the 37 Constitution giving a core on Northern Ireland. How the mechanics of that would play out and how the AI would react to it could make that approach impractical though.
