Will I be able to run the game comfortably?

System specifications:

CPU: AMD Athlon 5350 2.05 Ghz Quad-core processor
GPU: Radeon R7 240
RAM: 4GB
Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

What do you guys think? I'm really looking forward to the game and I really don't want it to be a lag-fest. I can run EUIV and CK2 reasonably well. I'm thinking Stellaris might run better due to the fact that it has no terrain to render, I also like that you have the ability to essentially alter the amount of stars throughout the map.

Idk, but hopefully I'll be able to upgrade my laptop in a few months. My i7 3640QM and 670MX are starting to feel a tad outdated these days.

The GPU is slightly better than the minimum requirement, the CPU however will have a very hard time. It will not be particularily enjoyable for sure.

That's unfortunate. I know this is the Stellaris subform, but would Hearts of Iron IV run any better?
HoIs requirements are not finalized yet (they will be when Pre-Order starts, so in about a week), but they will be very similar.
However, HoI is more of a game you just run on speed 1 than Stellaris is, so it might be possible. But your CPU will definetely be under minimum requirements as well.

Your hardware is just about two years old, but its really on the low-end. You can get that CPU for 37 and that GPU for 70 Euro at the moment, so that should tell you something about the quality.

Do you think it would be worth preordering and getting to test it out? Or can you say with near certainty that it will be completely unplayable/unenjoyable? I mean, EUIV/HOI 3/CK2 runs fine with the terrain and all, but I also understand they are much older games.

I really can't tell you for sure as long as it isn't out. You can refund games bought on Steam if you played them for less than two hours. If its unenjoyable really is up to you, I know people that go mad if their EU4 month takes more than 4 seconds, and there are other like me who can live with around 10 seconds, and others who have no problem if the fastest their hardware can handle is speed 2.

Either you buy it and then refund it if it doesn't work, you wait a few days after release so other people with suboptimal hardware can tell their experiences, or you just get a better setup if you want to enjoy and not hate the games. Thats up to you ;)

Alright, thanks for your advice! Appreciate it!
