How *depressingly* amusing. I read this thread (and registered on these forums) only because my EIC game won't work due to DRM!

When buying the game I did notice on the back in bold writing;

You must accept the enclosed License Agreement
Oline Activation Required

It set off alarm bells, but I was (childishly) excited about treating myself, so I bought the game anyway.

Predictably, I *possibly* typed my e-mail in wrong during Setup, and only noticed whilst clicking 'Next'.
'OK',thinks I, i'll just exit Setup, and do it again (bear in mind, it gave me the 'Setup can be completed later' message - hahahaha).
BIG MISTAKE.
Obviously on every setup attempt after that it informed me that the serial key had been taken.
Duh, silly me. Luckily i've been punished for my stupidity.

Here I am 4 days later, having wasted my Sunday morning trying to get this damn game to work (read, 'run'). I have made accounts on here, on Starforce (or whatever it's called), and even donwloaded 'Impulse' in an attempt to get EIC working. Obviously it hasn't.

Adding to the hilarity of the situation, I couldn't log in to check the status of my e-mail to Stardock[?] support. Even though I had made an account, it wouldn't let me sign in! Oh how I laughed!

So basically in purchasing this game and ignoring my premonition, I have thrown money down the drain. Never pay a builder before he's finished the job, he might not feel the need to finish it..

The most common issue is that the e-mail address was mistyped during the first installation. Stardock can help you with this, so I hope you hear back from them soon.

It will not say that the serial is taken if you install using the same e-mail each time.

Odd, I was just checking the forums for replies and Stardock e-mailed! Fingers crossed for a quick solution.

It seems bizzarre to me that you can register your key to an e-mail without needing to verify the e-mail exists. If they had a system like when you register on a forum (activation/verification e-mail) you could simply verify and then update your info in future, with it tied to that account.

You still have to be connected to the internet though to get your game working. Connecting to the server should be taken away so you just have a cd check.

I don't want to pop a disk in my drive to play a game. I would much rather have DRM and just double click.

GOO is probably one of the least intrusive drm I've used. No issues with it whatsoever.

A lot of people complain about drm, but rarely have I ever had an issue with it personally. The only time I've had an issue was with Mass Effect (securom) because i ran out of activations on the freaking DLC (3 times). That's inexcusable.

I believe the opposition to DRM has something to do with a frustrated libertarian instinct. Frustratred because people feel the need to rebel against being controlled (by the man) and can't find any other way of doing so.

It's part of being anti-big-government anti-big-corporation. It says "You won't control me!" and "I do what I want, nobody tells me what to do!".

What they forget is that nobody is telling them what to do or trying to control them, they're just trying to protect their sales. It's all a little childish.
