Will Empires still work the same like in EU3?

I wont play the demo because i already pre-ordered it (I know, horrible logic, right?)

Anyways I want to know if Empires will work the same as they did in EU3. Almost any Christian nation could become one, right? (Disclaimer: I dont really know because I never decided to change my government type to an Empire)

But I was fascinated with Crusader King II's Empire system. I could play as Lithuania, conquer the surrounding lands, and form the Wendish Empire. I don't want the Empire of Lithuania LOL. Who would?

And there's also Francia, Scandinavia, and Hispania too! I wonder if you could do something similar in EU4 (other than Great Britain).

I guess I'm asking for too much, and they ARE pretty different games to an extent, after all... I guess I should just form Wendish in CK2 and use the converter.

France used to be a Kingdom, then it became the French Empire with Napoleon. The Wendish Empire would be a horrible name for the Lithuanian Empire, because.. Well... They were not Wends. Though the Swedish and Danish kings did call themselves Kings of the Wends (and Goths)..

Another example of an empire that did not magically change names to something different would be the Spanish Empire. It was still Spain, never "Hispania".

To answer your question, empires work the same way as in EU4. A change in government type, and little else.

Hmm, maybe Paradox did some inaccurate history research? I don't know, I never heard of the Wends until I played CK2. The Wendish Empire can be created if you unite the Baltic Nations: Lithuania, Bohemia, Pomerania, and Poland.

Well, according to Wikipedia... Hispania is the name of the Iberian peninsula. So what CK2 did was if you united Portugal and Spain, they would become Hispania. That never happened in history.

And alright, I just wanted to know =P

The wendish empire's a weird on in CK2. Wends were a people, but in CK 2, one of the kingdoms you can use is poland, who were not wends at all. Then again you don't need to be polish to form poland, so what do I know.

Also by eu4 the wends had been mostly absorbed into other populations, mostly german.

A distinction needs to be drawn here between Empire, as a government type, and what the OP is talking about. Creating a new country out of several smaller ones is indeed possible in EU4. But, they are for the most part historical. Not very many alt-history ones.

But anyway as you mentioned, Hispania is the Iberian Peninsula's roman name. Hispania= España/Espanha. If I remember correctly in EU3 there were 2 different ways of forming Spain, one controlling Barcelona and one controlling Lisbon along with Toledo, and historically the Portuguese kings opposed quite vehemently to the appropiation of the title of King of Spain by the Castillian kings, as it sort of gave a little bit of romantic claim to the entire peninsula.

To answer your question, empires work the same way as in EU4. A change in government type, and little else.

Spanish Empire is a colonial Empire, like the British Empire or the French Empire outside of the Napoleon era. In the XIXth century it was a word used to describe colonial France and Great Britain, though France was half of the time a democracy (a kingdom at some point and a "real" Empire twice). It is a mistake to compare colonial Empire and traditional Empire.

Because an important factor in CK2 is titles. It doesn't matter if you are polish, if you have the title you can form poland and also control the land that is poland. This is why the Polish Kings had the tittle King of Prussia because they controlled they controlled the land that was Prussia. At least untill the Kings of Bradenburg-Prussia took it over so they could call themselves King of Prussia.

Here in EU IV titles are not as important like Count of X, Duke of Y and King of Z. What is important is the early rise and concept of the nation state which is why you need to be polish to form poland or german to form germany.
