Ok, My first HOI game. I'm Russia. Getting my ass wiped. (Poor research early in the game is messing me up). It's late 1944 and Germany's all over me...I'm barely hanging on to Moscow and Stalingrad with two armies. I keep hoping that England gets its act together and launches D-Day; but I'm sceptical. Has anyone ever seen AI Allies invade the mainland???

It probably has something to do with the fact that the AI doesn´t build much in the armyway. Especially the britts. Bit hard to invade without anything to invade with. I never have gotten them to send an expeditionary force either.

I'm in the middle of a game as Germany. I broke through the French defenses and I now occupy all of France. I began to move my armor units to the east for my planned invasion of Poland and Russia, but had to stop for a moment and remove a small allied landing from across the channel. You'll get a kick out of this...France landed a single armored division on my shores. The interesting part is...they could have landed the division on about a dozen coastal provinces and been entirely unopposed. Instead, they chose to land in a province that I had a ton of infantry in. So much for the attempted invasion. The armor division lasted about 12 hours before its organization dropped to zero and it surrendered. Not much of a D-day invasion, huh?

I'm surprised there isn't a D-day event hardcoded into the game. Something where you could choose "yes" to the event and get a 6 month period in which your infantry could be produced twice as fast and basic amphibious warfare is easier to research.

Sounds like a great idea to me!

Oh and about AI I was playing US, and I was at war with the axis and Italy decided to invade New York, and I didn't have any units there, the closest unit I had was in LA. :p

No. I have France garrisoned with a single infantry division and a few fighter wings to ward off bombing runs. Although even those have dried up. Once France is taken there is little point in garrisoning the West.

Only time I have seen that change was when Spain went Comintern and attack with Russia. Even then my cavalry army wiped them out - with portugal's aid.

Ya D-Day must be an event. And it absolutely must be 5-7 division event. The AI must be hardcoded to station atleast x number of troops facing England. And it must be hardcoded to make forts on the coast. This is my opinion of any "D-Day" event. I know the way the AI works. If enemy_province3333_ATTACK! But somethings gotta give. Somebody tell the programmers at Paradox to get a D-Day event in there. It has to be. And tell them to beef up Russia.

Even if the AI troops cheat and pop-out of thin air in the atlantic. It needs to happen. Otherwise, axis will always win. The game is pointless. Paradox has alot of work to do with AI. Mostly bombers, but USSR and DDAY need to be addressed aswell.

Umm... why does everyone feel the need to hardcode D-Day?

This is supposed to be remaking history, not repeating it.

I think the AI should be beefed up more, not some artificial "event". That's cheating.

D-Day didn't have to happen in real life. America didn't even have to join the war.

Why force this one event?

IF this forum is anything to go by open beta prolly would have been the silliest thing Paradox could do.

Anyway, I don't see a need for a D-day event at all. Why shoudl tehre be? It won't change anything about the ai doing invasions, the actual thing ur complaining about, not to mention nations should be free to invade whenever they please.

Maybe there shouldn't be a D-Day event but in those years under the right conditions, the allies should get some kind of a boost to help them at least try to create the D-Day event.

Or make the D-Day event have some requirements so maybe it would happen 25%-50% of the time.

Plus that open betas when used in game developing usually only include limited parts like a scenario or so. This would have been hard to do, we didn´t get a demo either for the same reasons I suspect. It´s all or nothing with this game.

Strange, isn't it? Well no, not really, not when you look at other stuff messed up. I do wonder what actually happens in betas sometimes (this goes for every single one, not just HoI's). :)

"Umm... why does everyone feel the need to hardcode D-Day? "

Cause the AI doesnt feel the need or understand the tactical importance of a Second front. The second front in this game is critical to the survival of the USSR. It has to be hardcoded. Otherwise the AI will simply resort to landing an armor division here and there and getting chopped up.

I think D-Day should be hardcoded. Maybe on June 5th, but sometime in 1944. Aswell I think Dieppe and an Anvil event aswell.

I also believe there should be an event that ties down, say 10% of all german troops in France. This represents real life threats from england that the AI normally doesnt recognize.

"D-Day didn't have to happen in real life. America didn't even have to join the war. "

But some kind of second front event has to happen. Cause the AI is nothing but a set of random actions and triggers. You have to use events to steer it in a historical/tactical direction like in the EU series.
