I recently got this game and I was wondering: is it possible to start in 1914, stay out of the war, build the USA into an industrial/technical megapower and blitz the world? Are there any new factors I need to keep in mind as compared to HOI: Doomsday?

You'll be a megapower no matter what it just happens.

US world domination game is my favorite. Currently playing one in Kaiserreich as the Union State.

Yeah, but why would you not intervene in the war? USA is a weird choice for a hands-off game, and the UK alone won't break Germany if they win or draw in Russia.

Because I like to destroy everyone; and the best way to do that is for me to be at war (and thus having the IC bonus) and not actually do anything. Once the Continent and Britain have torn themselves to pieces not a country in the world will have a navy, army or air force that can put a dent in me.

With a European country it makes sense to get involved at a dramatic moment of selected enemy weakness, but as the USA the longer you aren't in the war the further ahead you pull; since you don't have to support a big army and can turn all that into money and more IC. I also scuttle my entire navy when I start the game, so when I go to fight I have only the latest and best equipped battleship and aircraft carrier models against Britain's 19th century cruisers.

And I prefer the Central Powers win, since I don't like England :p

Playing USA is the most boring thing I've ever done in DH... You can butt your head against all the world at the same time. Why the heck to care about China, Austria or Comintern :)|

My Austria-Hungary is far more than the USA; I took pretty much everything in Europe...any player-controlled country is going to turn into a beast. I remember the old days of building Turkey to 400 IC and stomping a hole in Germany and the Sov. U. at the same time.

I haven't played the 1914 scenario, but it's my understanding that the game will most likely end somewhere around 1919-1922 when the Central powers win or surrender. So I don't think your plan will ever have the chance to pan out. Hopefully I'm wrong though :)

Perhaps the 1914 Mod might help. With that mod you can even start the game in the 1890s.

When I was playing USA I set it to run until 1942, and by 1919 Russia was out of the war and England hadn't even DOWed on the Central Powers. When I just now played as Austrian-Hungary, we crushed Russia and forced the Sov. Revolution by 1916 and forced a peace on them (taking everything to Kiev and within 2 provinces of Moscow); then I annexed France in 1917 (after Germany took some territory on the Rhine) and England STILL didn't DOW on us until 1920; and America was just twiddling its thumbs until I spent a boatload of cash to coupe them and they joined the Central Powers.

2 for 2, this game has gone completely bonkers from history.

Well that's good news for those of us who like to play ahistorical. I just might try it out then.

Aside from USA games, where my goal is to wreck history, I find historical deviations tend to come from the fact that the player is better than the AI and the AI thus tends to get crushed/supported to a degree that was historically more or less impossible. Right now as Austria-Hungary I'm at peace, have England and Ireland as puppets and have pretty much all of France, Italy and 1/3rd of European Russia; with an average revolt risk of <3% for my stolen territory. Giant empires are easy to manage!
