i was playing as france fighting a war against spain. i had a colony on the caribbean island of st. martin. the colony had sufferred a revolt recently and the population was at 31. during the war spain occupied st. martin. a few moments later the island was annexed to spain. the war hadnt finished nor had there been any terms offered. the war was still going on so i sent a force to retake the island and take a few other caribbean islands. when i retoke the island it did not switch over to my hands like it did to spain. i looked for ways to annex it but i found none. how the hell did spain do that???!!!

while i'm on the topic, i have an issue with the annexation of provinces in EU I. historically during this time european nations would annex huge ammounts of territory after winning wars(i.e. england taking all of canada from france after the french and indian war). there should be an option to annex all the enemy colonies in a particular region if you are particularly successful in a war. for example, if spain has 7 colonies in the caribbean and you capture them all then you should be able to demand "all spanish colonies in the caribbean" during peace negotiations. this came to mind after recieving the "no spain in caribbean" mission. now since spain has almost all of the caribbean under their control how can i annex every spainish province in the caribbean within a 5 year time period? impossible(unless of course i annex the whole country). well tell me your thoughts on both.

as to st martin..you are forgettign the treaty of tordesalles event...when you palce traders colnists you see a shiled on many provs..those in south part of north amercia and for the most part all of south america belong to spain ie..they can land troops at any time and simply take it without declaring war..the only way to stop it is by maxing the colony into a city fast and buiolding walls..and or sending/building a garrison to defend it they will fight as it it was a war going on...however if you lose control it belong sto spain and you cant get it back short of declaring war and or taking it as a province int he demdn section of peace

portugal has simlar shields in brazil, africa, india and most of the polynesian. nornea, java area etc..when you place a trader watch for these shields and make sure you send a garrison if you really want to keep it

as for colonial wars...yes such things happened , so did sales of provinces rather then warring for them...so far eu2 may cover the non war transfger of provinces...we do not know for sure...also a suggestion was made by some in previous psotings of having colonies only be worth 1 star in the demands and lifting the limit...so that one could demand up to 6 colonies or 3 provinces or combo of them..which would allow for vast tracts of changes in colonial possessions..i like that idea and hope they listned to it for eu2..but we wont know till its out

...or not being Catholic. They can't nick anything from Protestant/Reformed/Muslim colonial powers.

so what about that "no spain in caribbean" mission? so in EU I there is no way to complete that mission if they more than 3 colonies?

Other than taking by war every single Spanish coastal province, probably not. :D

It can be done-but will normally require at least two wars, with all the penalties thus accrued if you want to do it in five years. (Spain will have an average of four cities/colonies in the Caribbean, the rest being easily destroyed TPs.)

Hmm, think I'll stick to the "No Spain in the British Isles" mission - money for old rope :)

Literally!:D

Although I might point out that you'll still get the "no......in Carribean" missions for a while after you've taken control of all the relevant provinces.
