Much of that fuel is only being dispersed into the system, it's not all being consumed.

Load the same scenario and you'll see that you're running out of supplies in less than a week - but it doesn't happen.

Supplies yes, but I was out of fuel in the time it said.

They really don't:

Here SOV has excess supplies and money and will refuse to buy even 1 unit of supplies (or any other amount).

Not sure why but since that is 1938 (sure looks like an 8 not a 6) maybe other things have influenced it. Load up a 1936 game and check it in January of that year. Even if the SU has surplus supplies it still accepts the trade. Finally, the tooltip showed an excess of 99 supplies per day so maybe there is a limit.

No, it's '36.

Someting is fishy. The screen shot shows an event "Begin the Great Officer Purge". If this is Germany offering a trade to the SU then how does Germany have this event show up on their trade screen? Is this some mod or test? If so then that may have messed with the trade.

I can never get anyone to buy supplies though. Every country in the world has a surplus.
Also A noob question. What determines how much metal and rare materials are used up every day? Maintenance and building troops? Anything else?

The USA and USSR will buy boatloads of supplies in exchange for $. You have to start the good trades early as Germany. That locks the good trades in for years and allows Germany to get FAT for war. Get oil from Romania, USA and later USSR. Rares from all your future axis members and USSR. Metals are easy to find from Yugo, USSR, and Italy. Another trick is to start trading cash for resource to make sure the nation you want has cash 7 days later to buy your supplies. Then you buy resources and then sell supplies....

IIRC it takes 2 energy, 1 metal, 1/2 rare per IC right off the top. No maintenance costs that I know of. IIRC, Fuel and supplies are used in transport costs. Building troops costs manpower and IC.

So.. You ran out of fuel in ~60 days with the 1943 scenario? I've only poked around with this scenario briefly, but if this is the case, then the scenario is broken. (and it's not the only one.)

I'll have to give it a go soon, I'm much more interested in the later scenarios and have been impressed to see they've been improved in newer patches.

You didn't mention that, but you're capped at 99999 fuel/oil anyway. Even if you max out both that's 358 days at -670/day.

But fuel is only used when campaigning, right? The problem is that the Soviet Union likely won't last 358 days in a grand campaign.

I'm pretty sure this is not correct. Units consume a static amount of resources (I believe; that's why I asked about ships in port.) Armor and motorized divisions shouldn't consume fuel unless they're moving IMO.

One issue I try to keep in mind when working trades, especially as Germany, is that trade from over seas tends to get interdicted. This not only loses you whatever cargo was on the boats, but hits national unity as well.

With that in mind, I tend to try to keep my purchases "land locked" and with clear lanes of approach to my markets.

Yes, I tag changed to SOV to check their supply use and changed back. Screen doesn't update, but it doesn't affect the AI reaction.

No it does not, and the trading AI was re-written by Lothos for SF so nothing about 1.4 holds over. If you have a save where SOV will buy supplies in excess of its needs then please post it as a bug, but in my experience and testing it again specifically for this thread, it does not.

I will do as you ask. Over the next couple of days I'll start a new game as Germany and get a screen shot. As you know supply fluctuates and goes green/red because of the supply tax, refund etc. I'm wondering if early on (January 2, 1936 or so) if it shows green in the trade window but the internal calculations show a deficit. I have no access to the code so I can only offer conjecture. But I do know that the SU has never rejected my supply trade when offered on January 2, 1936 or the 3rd.

If they use fuel it is a very tiny amount. Planes not flying and ships in port use an extremely small portion of fuel if at all. I also know that the second I start moving my panzer divisions my fuel usage goes up. So even tanks use a smaller portion of their fuel if they stand still.

Darkrenown, I loaded up a '36 game and the SU has red supplies. This explains why they always accept the trade on January 2nd. So in that regard you are correct. But I did a search of all countries that had green supplies and more than 1 dollar in money (green also) and then looked at the probabilty of them trading. According to you they should all be impossible since they had a surplus of supplies.

Well there are only 3 or 4 countries that even fit this criteria. Sweden is one of them and it was NOT impossible. I had a maybe and they did reject the trade but the screen didn't say impossible. Another country also had a maybe and the other two did say impossible but their excess supplies was more than 40 per day.

This test can be done by anyone and easily verifed. Just start a new game, pick Germany, make excess suppies on January 1 and then pause at midnight on January 2. Then mouse over the supply and money amounts for each country and when one shows money > 1 and supplies > 1 try to trade a supply to them. You will see that it is not autmatically always impossible.

No, that's not true. They will only buy supplies if they have excess money and not enough supplies to supply all their troops. Buying supplies makes sense when you have excess money as you can use the IC you save to build more troops.

"Excess supply" isn't just having a positive flow on the trade screen, if they have enough money they will buy enough supplies to entirely supply their troops via trade, thus freeing up more IC for building stuff.

I have sooo been doing that wrong. I do concentrate on not buying supplies so as not to be selling my IC by proxy, but the thought of actually buying up supplies to free more IC never occured to me. I always end up with 2+ "coin" possitive income. some of that should have been going into freeing up more IC.

Maybe I can do navy stuff now.

Your response begs me to ask. What is the definition of "excess supply" and how could I tell if a country had it or not?
