is air warfare seemingly an abstract numbers game?? Tech doesn't really seem to matter! Why can crappy WW1 bi-planes, hold off an equivalent number of WW2 era, state of the art fighter aircraft such as the BF-109??

You're talking about a crappy out of date string bag, hopelessly outgunned, outmaneuvered, out performed in EVERY way possible when going up against the 109......it should be a no contest and in reality they would be falling to the ground quicker than flies buzzing a turd!

All the AI UK has built in my Germany game are said bi-planes. Yet they are frustratingly able to contest the skies over Britain quite successfully when going up against my 109's.

Not realistic at all! :(

UK probably has better coverage of the air zone and radar. Did you take doctrine? Either way putting 15 factories on 109's from day 1 and adding more later will give you enough planes to have air superiority from '37 on by sheer numbers alone.

I figured my early push West instead of East would have helped, left Poland for later. I had the Low Countries and France crushed by 9th October 1939 and was staring across the Channel. Seems the RAF and their string bags are holding their own!! :(

The UK will have almost full coverage from Radar- and all those planes probably aren't bi-planes, it'll be a mix because there is no way in hell the UK haven't got Fighter 1's researched and building by '39.

As said above, they've probably got doctrines too.

Yeah that worked. Just did play through and had about 5000 fighters by the time I forced war on them in early 39 after putting 40 factories into producing them. Took France with Italy's help, did a costly Sealion and forced Britain to surrender, air sup wasn't a problem with that many fighters!........but I stand by my original decision. The peace treaty system is completely broken for divvying up territories among Allies......I'll go back to fighting alone. Take everything for myself! The map ends up a mess when you have to "share". But thanks for the tip. The change in air doctrine for air superiority, and working my way along the doctrine tree I'm sure worked aswell. Another good tip as I have ALWAYS gone the CAS doctrine approach.

Also, the planes were bi-planes in the first run through, as I loaded as Britain and checked....bi-planes were all they had on that first run! Second run through however, there were some Hurricanes in the mix this time!
