It's Maurice Gamelin, best known for losing the battle of France and appearing in most "top 10 worst generals ever" lists out there. He apparently was an unusually competent officer in WW1 though, and he was strictly apolitical. I find him a very interesting personality, also I like the super-smug look on his face.
For a second choice I would've picked Friedrich Paulus, another very interesting commander with a terrible reputation. Gamelin stands out a bit more though.
I'll probably change it into a Hungarian general once DoD comes out, not sure which one yet though.
