When you play as Albania, or when you make a custom nation with Albanian culture, Albanian is grouped in south Slavic. I know that Albanians live in Balkan which is mostly inhabited by Slavs but everyone knows that Albanians aren't Slavic.
I've heard people saying that Albanian should be in the Latin culture group but the Albanian culture isn't really a Latin culture. If you check on videos on Youtube and even when speaking with Albanians, all of them say that Albanian is a culture with no relation with other cultures.
So for the sake of accuracy, I think Albania should have It's own culture group.

I wish there would be some sort of sticky thread that would say just language =/= culture in big bold letters and below would have an explanation of the (frankly confusing and sometimes contradictory) explanation of culture groups as implemented in the game.

I also hope that EU5 will abandon culture groups as a mechanism.

So for the sake of accuracy, I think Albania should have It's own culture group.
Single-culture groups are something that the devs have been doing away with. The only one which remains is Korean, when previously Albanian, Basque, and Hungarian were isolates as well. It's a gameplay decision, ultimately

I wonder if these posters who are like "my nation is so unique and different from its neighbors, it should be its own culture group" realize that doing that would be a huge nerf for their country.
First off: I didn't say I'm from Albania, I'm from Kosovo which is an own country today
And second: Logic matters more then whether something is a nerf or not

As good as the intentions may be, there are gameplay reasons why this isn't a thing.
Some of them already push the limit on how small a culture group can be (like Byzantine and Korean), and end up being very weak for it.
That's with a dozen or so provinces, I think there's no viability whatsoever for a 4 or 5 province culture group.
Compromises had to be made in a lot of places, see Hungarian, Romanian or Turkish (that last one I don't quite agree, but alas).

There are plenty of exemples where Paradox choses gameplay over historical accuracy. Such as grouping Turkish culture with Arabic ones or including Breton into French culture group.
Yes it makes no sense compared to reality. But EU IV is not reality it's mainly a game and as such must make some decisions to promtoes better gameplay than being an accurate encyclopedia about world history and culture.

you make a good point, I've already been told about this by the people above, but now comes the idea, can't Paradox like add a culture group that contains only isolated cultures?

They would be better in byzantine group, albanians and other illyrian cultures had more in common to Byzantium than slavs.
well yeah, Albanian does have a lot more in common with Byzantines rather than with Slavs, and there's still the possibility to putt Albanians in the Latin culture group, I just wanted to mention it that historically, Albania always had an isolated culture.

PS: Due to having an isolated culture could be a massive nerf, they could also balance it with a Skanderbeg buff, not like Skanderbeg isn't powerful enough in the game already, but let's be honest, It's not like you can attach Skanderbeg and beat an army that greatly outnumbers you like it happened in history.

I had heard hungarians are not slavs but never heard it about albanians. I'm a brazilian though, so.

But requiring a separate culture group is really a disservice to your culture gamewise, request it be added to chinese or germanic instead.

This would be useless. If you created a culture group that contained only isolates, would be the same as doing a culture group just for Albania, as the nearest isolate to Albanian would be Hungarian, and after that Basque (?), and then maybe Korean. From a gameplay perspective, it would be idiotic since culture groups exist for 1) the lower penalty for unaccepted cultures if those cultures are in your culture group and 2) to autoaccept those cultures once you are an empire. In the same way that adding turkish to levantine was a huge buff to Ottos, taking Albanian as an isolate would be a huge nerf to Albanians, since you would need 100 dip points for any culture you start conquering, just for its provinces to not have very ugly penalties. Just compare the difference between unaccepted cultures and unaccepted culture in the same group.

Hmmm, that would last too little, and its really hard to solve this problem. Check all the threads on this forum about Portugal and how it can't beat India with inferior numbers as it did in real life. This game simply cannot model it. Besides that, Skanderbeg will last for very little.

IMO the only thing that would be done if Albanian was made an isolate would be that any sensible run with them would start by conquering some serbian or dalmatian provinces and culture switching.
