When it comes to dicussing EU1 and the upcoming EU2 and what we would like to see in it, shouldn't we ask ourselves why we play the game? I play because, as a history buff, I know what really happened and I want to see if I can do it better. When playing France in the Grand Campaign it really excites me when I can vassalize Lorraine and then annex her. It also excites me to wait until the Netherlands revolts and then ally myself with her and beat up on Spain. I could go on and on about playing other countries but we all have our own ideas about how we play them. I have played France 3 seperate times in the Grand Campaign and each time has been different and enjoyable. Does any of the new things in EU2 really matter as long as it does not take away from the fun of playing the game:)

The best two games I've had are:
1. Playing Spain, I focused on North Africa and I got to convert to the true faith all my subjects from Sahara to Tripolitania. and I am not catholic myself :D
2. Playing Genoa, I got to colonize half Brazil and the west coast Africa around Dakar.

It's very nice when you make big changes in the history, still in believe-able margins.

i enjoy trying to duplicate history as close as i can, just to see how much the game can accommodate. it seems to handle most of it fairly well. i would like a fantasy scenario where north american inidans exterminate settlers as they step off the boat, but i cant seem to get province.csv to do this.

It depends on my mood.

Sometimes I want to create a plausible alternative history. My first game was a jolly fantasy (on easy setting)where the Iroquois massacred all settlers and attempted colonists then
Other days - maybe got home in a bad mood after being stuck on a hot train for two hours, or just got bored with the campaign - I might go and wipe out the Portuguese just for the hell of it.

I make no claim to be a real historian.

I like changing history alot. In Canada I read about how the british caputured quebec, and when I read my history books in school, I always wondered what would have happened if the French won. Or how history would have turned out if the Spanish Armada beat the English navy. If I wanted to see duplicate history in action, I can always pick up a good history book and enjoy it or watch the History Channel. Changing history for me is more fun:)

Chalenging Situations

Hi Folks,

In a good game I like to try to re create or change history. I like to see what kind of chalenges people in other situations had.
In a bad day, to quote a famous old song;
" I wanna kill, I want to jump up and down with veins in my teeth, I wanna kill ! "
and this is a safe way to do it....

Just another thought.

Littering ...AND creating a nuisance

Walk right in, it's around the back,

I do love to go off-topic.

To me, it is much more interesting to play a game where France ot Turkey or anyone is set against equally familliar opponents. It's easier to ponder the possibilities when you have a frame of reference.

Much as I like guarding the Kingdom of Erathia from the Undead Hordes, or Playing the Gnolam as they try and fight off the Antareans, those types of things don't have the same appeal.

Glad to get such good responses to my first post. Still the main question Do we really care what changes are in EU2 as long as we can enjoy the game?:)

Well, i play it cause i like war :D Yup yup yup :D Lotsa blood, lotsa fun :p

Actually, I do not care about history. So what if Aden can defeat Turkey(never seen it, but wouldn't it be cool ?)
Or the Aztecs conquer all of both Americas? Or China being beaten badly by a Dai Viet, Korea alliance?

S'all good:D S'all very very very good :D

Seriously though, i will play EU and EU2 because it is a good game(yes, i said GOOD  ). That's the only reason i need.

I also play cause im a history and geography buff and i love how things change in alternate history scenerios (AHS) Ive played great games like Iron storm but this one focus's on a large period of history. It is the length and the gameplay value i love about this game and the addictiveness of it. To play a game from any nations perspective is the greatest thing about it even if you don't do so well.

I play this game because I want to see an alternative history build by me.
If the game is too historical and do not allow for human changes, then I might as well read my "history of the world".

Hey, as long as Turkey beats them 8/10, I'm pleased, it is a nice little surprise that I think some would like.
Stuff like Turkey taking Finnmark etc.:D
