It seems odd that you can only get plotters to break away from a clan that are of the clan's dynasty. Those who are NOT of the clan's dynasty surely have more interest in breaking away.

Not sure I follow you here. Are you saying that the only ones who accept your invitation to join a plot to break free of the clan are members of the ruling dynasty, while those of another dynasty say no?

Nope, there is a game requirement which shows up with an asterisk in the hover tooltip over the 'Invite to Plot' button. For instance, I started a brand new game as the Daimyo of Izumi, before even starting the clock I notice that both the Daimyos of Bitchu and Tanba have negative relationships with the clan leader but positive relationships with me. We are all Hosokawa. I start a plot to break free from the Hosokawa. I go to each of those Daimyos and hover over Invite to Plot and I see a red asterisk at "Is not of the clan's dynasty".

Hmm, either this is a mistake how the plot is scripted in that it only should be allowed for non-dynasty members, or the requirements for joining it has changed in the patch, because as it works with the patch as I recall is that anyone can start such a plot and anyone can join it, just that dynasty members are more keen on usurping the clan rather than leaving it. Will double-check on Monday.

I got it backwards. It is saying that daimyo will not plot against their own clan - which is also weird. They won't join a plot unless they are NOT of the clan's dynasty - so no brothers rising up against their father allowed.

The plot to usurp the clan rather than leaving it is allowed for members of the same dynasty. So brothers, fathers, etc can plot to take over the clan through an ultimatum that might lead to civil war.

Same dynasty, direct vassal of the clan leader, the clan can not be in a civil war, and you can't be the heir to the clan.
