I actually feel ridiculously pleased with myself over this.

That'll learn the Space Otter motherfuckers for rivalling me.

The AI should really go after border outposts more though. If (when) they do go to war with me, even if they win I've still blocked them off from 48 perfectly good tiles, because frontier outposts only get destroyed if the AI fleets happen to pass near them, which they aren't likely to.

I can agree with that. Frontier Outposts are usually my first target in a war. One of the only times I felt justified in a First Contact war was to eliminate one I found on my borders early-game.

The AI does so if no other target presents itself, though I do think the scripting should be changed so that they smash frontier outposts first, before beginning planetary invasions.

Example: AI on the eastern side of my empire went to war with me, crossed to the west of my empire (he couldn't target my planets because it was early game and both our fleets were around 1k) and smashed a frontier outpost I'd placed to secure access to several systems with a whopping 30 minerals/month income.

When I rebuilt it, while skirmishing with his fleets, he destroyed it again. Fool me once, shame on you, etc.
