I'm not a big fan of the metal, but I've bought all the music DLC's anyway because variety is to be welcomed after 1000++ hours playing CKII. That said I would really like to see one more 'traditional' music DLC before all is said and done.

If you haven't heard of it, someone made a big and easilly customizable list of music to spice up the game music a bit, it might be of interest. I quite like it, but I haven't heard through that much of it yet, only music for western christian rulers. So far I've only removed some of the Jewish music which played due to Jewish people showing up from events .. well and some other stuff I can't remember at the moment.

Could the focus on metal have something to do with the fact that Paradox is based in metal-loving Scandinavia?

I actually like the Viking Metal music, but didn't buy it for the game. I listen to it on Spotify while I'm doing other things. Gamewise, I agree that more historical (or at least pseudo-historical) music is best. My favorite track is probably The King's Crusade.

But death metal is more death by violence, which this game already has plenty of. There's a reason why doom metal often gets referred to as "funeral doom." It easily captures this DLC's atmosphere.
Pal, it was just a pun based on the latest DLC's name, period.

I was in no way trying to have a serious discussion about metal music (which I'm not particularly fond of) :p

I agree with the OP. Andreas music is epic. It fits the tone, imagination, and is far more immersive than metal. In fact metal isn't immersive at all. Metal may sound good to some, but i want the immersive, epic experience i get from Andreas music.

What's weird is there hasn't really been much music from him at all lately except for the Stellaris OST. EU has been all Metal lately, which there are plenty of people over there getting tired of all the metal and wanting more regular pieces as well. Did he piss off PDX or what?

Don't forget the HoI IV OST.
