Instead of giving us heavy metal or house music, why not make more cultural or religious soundtrack like Songs of Albion or Hymns of Abraham? So many areas on the map lack their own music that seems to be a waste to continuously launch those metal tracks out of place...

It would be interesting if the music played could be divided into something like that: 40% generic soundtrack for everyone, 20% to the culture branch, 5% to a specific culture within that branch , 20% do the religion branch, 5% to a specific religion within that branch and the resting 10% to traits inherent to the character, like being pious (pretty much like Songs of Faith is), or lunatic etc.

Listen I love this game, and I enjoy metal music.

I actually coincidentally even love Amon Amarth, and viking metal.

And I love the new metal music super blood pumping and it actually meshes better than I expected.

But this thread has a point. That too much metal music will overwhelm the rest of the music that we also love.

I also love the classical music, the twanging of Coeur de Lion is still my favorite.

And metal may fit many moments and moods in this game but this is the medieval period instrumental classical does fit a lot more of it.

A suggestion if you're looking for more unique medieval and renaissance music- try the VIET Music Packs from the HIP forum. They pretty much cover every culture and culture group in the game. As an added bonus it doesn't change the checksum, though don't go too crazy otherwise you'll kill your loading times.

While I agree about need for contextual music, I still am happy that the new music is metal, not some hippy-hop, contemporary popmusic or other nowaday cr*p.

What really bugs me from the CK2 metal OST though - the song about viking gods switching on while I'm not playing a character of their religion

I've played literally 1,115 hours in this game, and I have to say the change in music is absolutely amazing! I have bought the other song packs, but never really played areas that they would be active, the metal doesn't feel out of place at all to me, and I don't even like metal music! I love it!

Can anyone tell me what type of metal the music DLCs are? The subgenres can vary a bit and I don't want to buy the packs only to find out is death or black metal which are way too heavy for me.

I loved the House Lords btw.

I haven't bought the new one yet, but the first one is not especially extreme. I'm not really sure what subgenre I would classify it as but it's definitely not death metal.

I bet you can find the songs on youtube and see if you like them that way.

Well, I don't own that DLC but I would definitely expect to have death metal linked with the Reaper's Due...

I'd call it power metal or symphonic metal. It's actually pretty light overall. No death metal or black metal.

I agree with the OP. Andreas music is epic. It fits the tone, imagination, and is far more immersive than metal. In fact metal isn't immersive at all. Metal may sound good to some, but i want the immersive, epic experience i get from Andreas music.

What's weird is there hasn't really been much music from him at all lately except for the Stellaris OST. EU has been all Metal lately, which there are plenty of people over there getting tired of all the metal and wanting more regular pieces as well. Did he piss off PDX or what?

I agree with the OP and the quote above. I've bought all the music packs except the metal ones. I'm not sure why the only music options recently are all metal for a medieval game.

I'm not a big fan of the metal, but I've bought all the music DLC's anyway because variety is to be welcomed after 1000++ hours playing CKII. That said I would really like to see one more 'traditional' music DLC before all is said and done.
