If it's cheaper on Amazon, buy it. You will not regret your purchase.

Presumably it's still the Steam version anyway, so it makes no difference with regards to DLC & patching.

If it'll save you money buying from Amazon: Why not? That's how capitalism works, isn't it?

I suspect Amazon's sales numbers are not too good if they are selling the game cheap, maybe because most people buy digital copies through Steam etc.

And I don't think it hurts Paradox if you order through Amazon: They won't be payed less money just because Amazon decided to lower the price. :)

Aargh! I bought it from Amazon, and did regret it! The thing won't install!
The game is not saved on the disk, Steam is. Then you redeem it from Steam. Simple? No. The game won't redeem. The code's valid, as otherwise I couldn't type here, but for some reason Steam doesn't want to work. Any suggestions? :)

Check the tech support forum here and/or at Steam and look into the stickies first.

On Steam and Gamersgate so much more expensive? I am a HOI3 player-
is this worth buying from Amazon.Uk?

It has been that cheap on Steam and Gamersgate as well when they did a general or special sale. No reason to worry.

Im pretty certain it will be on sale on Steam over the next couple of weeks when they kick off their Christmas event. I got the Ck2 collection in June for £8.49 (which is currently priced £44.99), and it has been on sale several times since then (but not with quite as huge a reduction as its first sale).

Its a tricky one, because its quite an expensive game (I would still reccommend the CK2 Collection for £44.99 without hesitation) and is highly likely to get a large (temporary) discount very soon. So it all depends if you are either flush with cash and impatient to play the game, or not so rich and/or have a bit of patience. Ive been stung before in this way, as Im sure a lot of Steam users have been.

Does anything come with this Amazon version? any of the DLC I mean? I would say the Ruler Designer is a must have (personal opinion ofc) and I really enjoy the flavour packs of music and portraits etc but they are by no means necessary...You also have to figure in buying the expansions, so the costs soon mount up if purchased outside a discount phase. I think CK2 complete with everything right now on Steam is going to set you back best part of £100, but if you wait a week or 2 the same complete deal might only be £25 or thereabouts.

(ps. I just checked what I paid in total for everything, and it came to £22.09 for all content released so far. Which is literally a STEAL. Hurry up and release more stuff please Paradox, I feel terrible about it : P)

I was planning on buying some DLC on Amazon after Christmas (lots of gift certificates) and then using the DLC on my Steam account. The advice I got was that this would be no problem.

Is this not the case?

It was always my assumption that Amazon and other non-digital retailers tend to sell boxed copies of Steam games, meaning that you simply install the game from the CD / DVD and it boots up Steam and 'downloads' it there. Obviously I'm only talking about newer, Steam platform games, and it should say on the box / product website.

Do Paradox work differently here? The two (primary, at least) platforms on which CK II exists are Steam and GamersGate, and I think the latter is only available to those who purchase directly from them.

So, your Amazon gift certificates should be perfectly compatible with the Steam version of the game. What you mustn't do, though, is mix and match Steam and GamersGate versions / DLCs as they are incompatible.
