It's not like they're sentient beings willingly reproducing themselves. They're just robots. The game should just let me choose which robot model I want to assemble without any penalty.
What you're saying is basically that if someone on Earth ever researches sentient AI, my Fridge should immediately gain Robot Rights and become sentient, and be free to walk out of my house.Choosing which robot model to build is possible but unfortunately equivalent to population controls, and so having the policy which allows it will displease individualists and possibly also xenophiles.
Robots also do not migrate on their own, but relocating them manually will become forbidden if you give synths citizen rights and forbid resettlement, which is another individualist ask.
For the record if you click on population growth robot pop assembled you can pick which robot type you produce. It took me a while to discover that.
Not sure if there is an penalty. It would be weird if there is (so probably is PDX way), it is not like we are stoping robo sex.

it's considered as picking which pop to grow and receive penalty accordingly.
Yeah this is exactly what needs to happen. Just like available housing and jobs influence growth rate, types of jobs available should influence growth type (also for bio pops). Since this is a one time calculation done at the moment it needs to decide which pop to grow, I think it could be considerably more complex than it is now. They should at least make it so that worker and spec jobs available on the planet influence what models are being assembled. The assembly could also stop once the max housing is exceeded and instead focus on repurposing current robot models to more efficient ones according to their occupied jobs but hey... Probably not gonna happen.
Thanks, though not entirely sure about bio pops. Procreation in stellaris societies is viewed as a kind of hobby (like in modern western human culture) instead of something of a social need. Also, the whole point of biological pops is that they are inept, selfish moro- jerks, who make stupid decisions based on their current whims no matter how bad the consequences of that will be for everyone themselves included. "The entire planet will die from starvation if there won't be any farmers? Not my problem! I always dreamed to be a clerk. Besides, I never liked eating anyway."Yeah this is exactly what needs to happen.
