I love Conclave + Horse Lords combo I bought recently. It is more difficult to do stuff, yet I still got myself a Kingdom (almost two alrrady) from very challenging tribal chief start on 1224.
P.s. shatered retreat, now that is a menace for my mercenary expenses....

I implied that you did not play the DLC and the opinion of others led you to think that it is artificial and arbitrary while I did play the DLC, did not thought it was that way and explained why.

That's right, I did not play Conclave. I didn't hide that fact, actually I think it's pretty clear from my first post in this topic. However as I already wrote I watched videos (let's play's), read reviews (and no they are not all about stuff that was in the patch as often is assumed around here) and read postings by individuals who I think know what they are writing about.

Fact is that Conclave changed the game's meta considerably. You may like those changes, I don't.

I don't want to have to fight just to hand out viceroyalties and declare war. As it stands, when a strategos dies I just replace him immediately, no fuss, with the most qualified and loyal candidate.

What do you mean? My friend told me that even his viceroys were unhappy about the viceroyalties, and that his council never let him hand out viceroyalties. How would I be able to hand out a ducal viceroyalty if I have to fight my council every time I wanna replace a dead viceroy?

Why the hell he doesn't have "title grant ruler sovereighty"? It's one of you must have laws (the other being title revocation and imprisonment sovereighty; banishment and execution are not so important imho).
But from my experience - you WILL be forced to give your advisors favors if you want to declare wars(at least if you are blob). Normally I would suggest ignoring the council (yes, you can ignore their "advices", but you get tyranny modifier and they are allowed to join fractions) or getting war declaration sovereighty, but you are saying you already have problems with vassals...

One thing you should know about Conclave. It changes internal policy mechanics, but doesn't make it totally and absolutely better. Some elements are actually worse (i.e. you have only two yes/no crown laws, base obligation laws are OP, council laws coexist with centralisation laws, when they both implement centalisation-decentralisation problem; on the other hand, min levies were moved to obligation laws, making them actually working - old levy obligation laws were useless if you had high CA). But imho new system just feels better. It's just so high medievalish that you are supposed to make some stewardship=7 guy your steward, because he is grand duke of something. That you must ask your pairie de realm if you can make war with HRE - and they will be not-so-happy if you tell them "well, I was asking for advise, not permission".
(Also, I heard that maybe - but only MAYBE - we'll get some new laws with path 2.6, which imho can make Conclave even better, but that's very MAYBE).

I really liked the changes. You can set up your laws so you can just hand out Viceroyalties, but it takes some effort to keep it in place, and reduces the number of vassals you can have before hitting your limits. It's a nice balancing act, at least from the games I have played since version 2.5.2.

I also played 2.5.2 without Conclave active, and that was fun, but it was indeed a different experience. I'm not sure I would go back though.
