I read a lot of the AARs and this game looks interesting i was wondering what makes this game a great game such as:

1. how does the military system work

2. is the AI difficult to beat

3. what makes the game so interesting

4. is it somewhat historically accurate (not really that important to me)

5. is it easy to play as weak nations (i'm used to being able to play as a faction like naxos in eu3 and take over all of greece and the balkans)

hope someone replies to this :)

1) hard to explain.. you just gotta play it and see..

2) AI is alright, but it cheats, and it cant do amphibious invasions. (that ive ever seen) HOI3 is supposed to greatly improve upon this. theres also AI mods that may improve the AI.

3) events. trying to correct the mistakes made by countries and succeeding where they failed.

4) Fairly Historical, lots of events, room for different outcomes. Mods really help in this area too..

5)No... maybe some of the Vets who have been playing for years can, but I wouldent suggest it.

I read a lot of the AARs and this game looks interesting i was wondering what makes this game a great game such as:

1. how does the military system work

The military system is far more complex than on other Pdaox games as combat is a more important factor within the game. It is pretty difficult to sum it all up in one post though.

2. is the AI difficult to beat

When you've played a while then no. The good thing is that there are a lot of very good mods which change the AI. The most obvious one is D.A.I.M which only effects the AI but others such as WiF improve the AI and give them some serious boni which makes the AI difficult to beat.
I recommend buying Arma and patching it to 1.2 as that would improve the AI too

3. what makes the game so interesting

Where to begin? Try the game then you will see. ;)

4. is it somewhat historically accurate (not really that important to me)

To an extent then yes but HoI is a game and not an historical simulation. Events gear the game a certain direction and mean that the most games will be fairly historical.

5. is it easy to play as weak nations (i'm used to being able to play as a faction like naxos in eu3 and take over all of greece and the balkans)

Depends on what you want. A WC (world conquest) with Honduras for example will be pretty tough. But you may be able to say Conquer the entire central America and make some decent contributions with WW2. I often play minor nations and they can be lots of fun

hope someone replies to this :)

I love this game and cant get enough of it.....I'm afraid I'm going to keel over waiting for HOI 3 to come out....so much good info coming out about it makes me dream happy dreams...

If you do get it read Ironhead 5's AAR on "how to play this game". He had a lot of good ideas I didnt even know after playing this game for 2-3 years....

Have fun.

Just look at all the people on the board devoted to this game and you will know why you should play. Can't wait for HOI3!

BTW I picked up the Axis and Allies Anniversary Edition last month and it's good for a change of pace. I had the original when I was a kid in the 1980's and if you haven't played since the original came out there are a ton of changes. The only thing is that it's kind of expensive (U.S.$80-$90) but my buddies and I have been having quite a bit of fun with it.

If you like being immersed in Grand Strategy and being overwhelmed with an enormous degree of diverse interactive gameplay that can develop into a personal storyline then you will love it.

If your someone with very little patience and not much exprience in games with intricate detail then forget it as this game has a very high learning curve and you need to be the type of person who enjoys being overwhelmed at first when learning to master the mechanics.

There are only a few other games out there for this historical period that encompass the whole world that come close, or surpass this one in terms of scale and detail.

For instance Avalon Hills Third Reich is a babies game in comparrison and I used to play the boxed version (33 pages of rules) of that when I was 12 years old before there were computers.

Be aware. HOI3 comes out soon, but I would not hold off as it will be a good while before it gets debugged. You will have a good 6 months, or more with this baby and HOI3 will be much easier when you switch up.
