Or nobody.![]()
Well the reform movement was well underway since before the games timeframe
Anglicanism should not be separated from Protestantism in my opinion. Protestantism is not synonym with Lutheranism but with countries establishing national Churches under the monarch's rule and clearly breaking with the Pope: Church of England, Church of Sweden,...
For example, if Gallicanism in France would have clearly broken with the Pope, than France should be portrayed as a Protestant country. This is not the same as the Huguenots winning the Wars of Religion, in which case France should be in game Reformed.![]()
Well Anglicanism was initially not protestant in the Lutheran sense, it became so under George but changed under Mary and Elisabeth. From the latter onward it was seen as a protestant religion and the English themselves always felt naturally allied to the northern European protestants and so forth. The Scots for that matter were Presbyterians, not always eye to eye with the English. The point is the reformation is quite complex and EU IV does not support that complexion AT ALL.
As for France may I point out that Francis I in 1516 in *I have forgotten name of agreement/concordat* extorted worldly power over the catholic church in France (which FYI the Austrian Habsburg did as well without qualms), which essentially made it irrelevant to break with the pope like Henry VIII did. The kings of France had no longer any need to break with the pope for the pope had acquisced in all their demands.
