so right. newer doesnt mean better. theres some bells and whistles in eu 2 that id like to try out, but based on what i have learned through these very informative pages, i dont think that the new game is substantially that different from this. so unless i see EU 2 in a bargain bin, i'll wait it out for CK instead, a real prequel.

thanks for being there.

It's a shame to see that ur missing out on the greatest computer game ever made.

And it is by far substantially better than EU1.

Period.

Well, have u got EU2 so u can defend EU1?

And, I'll prolly get HoI someday, when I feel like it. I have no need to play it atm. :)

I feel the same way. The next full price game I buy would need to be "different" from EU - like MTW or CK.

heh. just in comparison, i got way more fun out of "panzer general" than "panzer general II" even though the latter had many better features. more fun with that territory first time around.

now sometimes upgrades do work out a lot better: CIV 2 imho was a "better" game than the original. alpha centauri, another sequel, was also "better", but in fact it was not. as for CIV III? i have no interest anymore in the series. i'm ... just... played... out.

still, i will never know EU2 unless i try. but until then, dont feel sorry for me overmuch. for EU still "works" and the game is the thing.

well i'll take your word for it then. im of course limited in this discussion because i have never played EU2.

but that being the case, it doesn't take anything away from EU+IGC though, which i am still enjoying when i can cleave the time away from the rest of my life.

anyhow, upgrade if necessary, but not necessarily upgrade. a good philosophy for all tech. pc games like EU and EU 2 were not possible only a few years ago. so im happy with what i got.

cheers

nah, eu2 plays great with wine on linux, and there are less crashes than with windows (aka directx... seems that reliably simulating direct x is actually easier to implement it :D)

I have all three paradox games installed.

Each one has a place on my hard drive.
HOI is a fantastic grand strategy game for the World War II period.
EU II is a masterpeice. It had everything EU I lacked to make it a true classic of historical simulation.
EU I is my sandbox. I have the files so brutally modded to make absoultely no historical sense, but it's fun to screw around with. No historical IGC, just some off the wall modding that I tweak whenever I warm up the original :D
-Got sick of Spain automatically winning no matter what every single game, so I modded the leaders and monarchs to horrible stats, gave them silly names, and now Spain gets swallowed by all its neighbors.
-Gave the Hanseatic League a new Immortal Monarch with 9-9-9 stats (The Cult of Hansa :D) with an absurd amount of monarch events tied to it, and it always overruns all of germany and most of russia and North Europe.
-Sibir and Nubia fight for dominance of the Arabic world!
-The united Kingdom of Scotland!
-An abusrdly rich and powerful portugal!
-and much much worse!

It has it's own place in my heart. I hardly ever play it, but when I do I always get a nice laugh out of it.
