Please , please , please . My Beautiful 500,000 population city was doing so well . I had parallel highways both above ground and underground servicing my organ traffic system (a U shaped one way street connected to highways through ramps) . Everything was going well . My city was humming .

And then suddenly nothing industrial was being delivered and nothing commercial could get goods .

I checked that I'm at the vehicle limit .

I have efficient bus lines , efficient metro system that connects all my city's organs . I have free transportation . I have so many things to help reduce the number of vehicles on the road and I have so little traffic .

So why must you punish my poor metropolis for simply wanting to grow to 1,000,000 ?

Can't we get a 40,000 vehicle limit ? Please ?

Maybe the devs should introduce a "no-limits mode", with which they are not responsible for any bugs and crashes that occur while playing with it.

Part of it , I think , is the scaling , too . I'm nowhere near the building count so why should I already be hitting the vehicle ceiling ? It's always the first to get hit .

There are so many things they "maybe" should introduce but won´t. "Working as intended" or "we´ll look into it" (without any change whatsoever of course) is all we will get.
From their point of view I can understand that too. Why put any effort and with that money in a product that is condoned by the majority of buyers? I don´t get it at all, but it surely seems that way.
They even swallowed this half finished add on without second guessing and they will continue to do so. By this time I am in the same state I was 18 months ago: Maybe SOME DAY we will get a mature city builder, with up to date graphics that don´t leave a bad taste in your mouth and sophisticated gameplay that keeps you on for months and not for hours.
I had nearly given up on the Star Wars franchise years ago as well and here we are... with that awesome movie...and more to come. If that means I have to go through this "prequel" phase and go on your and the dev´s nerves every once in a while, so be it.

Why stop at 40,000. Might as well make it an adjustable limit of any value you like. But of course you will get tech illiterate people cranking it up on their budget dual cores and integrated graphics, see the game run at 1fps and get angry and blame the developer...

This sounds to me more bug import / export.
In my current city that appeared I discovered the reason: moving a "cims port" site. Transport line ships crash.
I returned to my last save, delete it and go.

If you have many saved games, look where it is not bug, and follows check.

See ships keep coming (up number) and not enter the map (they stay on the border of the map)
Luck.

Did not remember, but I made a capture to recover of bug, jam ships:

I don't think that's the problem since I just checked the map and all of the ships seem to be going properly and I don't see any buildup on the edges of the map even in the mist .

While I understand the frustration of wanting bigger and better for your city, only 16,000 active vehicles being simulated simultaneously is actually an incredible feat of programming. This is not a small number we're talking about.

No one is disputing that Cities:Skylines is a well programmed game . I myself wrote an online article praising it so , with all due respect , I already understand and recognize the talent which I have dutifully reciprocated by buying this project and recommending it to my readers .

This thread is not to make small the work people have done . The purpose of this thread is twofold:

1. To give feedback on the fact that I cannot seem to get my city size past 500,000 with any proper economy without everything grinding to a halt .

2. To ask anyone here if there are workarounds or solutions to this problem or mods that can be made so that I can finally continue to build a decent sized city .

Because after all , why should a game that purports to make itself the spiritual usurper of the Sim City franchise and other city building games have cities that can only get as big as Fresno, California or can't even grow larger than bloody Liverpool .

I understand that I have no "right" to ask for a seemingly impossible task of growing larger than a 16k vehicle limit . I simply want to see if there are any solutions to the problem before I recommend this game to any of my friends or invest in any more expansions .

I think this is less of a 16k vehicle limit than a 9-tile AI limit. Once we pass 9-tiles, the game starts pulling demand in all directions and makes the game spawn excessive agents, ( not just traffic) .

I think we may need a 25-tile AI mod. Maybe the current traffic mods could help increase delivery times to get traffic off the road quicker to help keep the limit down a little.

I am at 475k and have too many freeways and tons of on/off ramps to help traffic as much as possible. I have about 13k traffic. But every time I start zoning I hit 16k quickly and have to wait for sections to mature and reroute traffic constantly. I have even tried to make lots of larger districts so I can try to optimize my employment, import, exports, etc. It's helping a tiny bit, but it seems to help in general.

I think agents are just traveling too far for jobs and stuff and maybe if I get it balanced enough, it may get down to zero demand per district. But since cims live 4-6 years they need to die to get reassigned. Probably why cims have a short life span, so they can be reassigned to closer jobs as your city grows.

Balance seem to be very import this late in the game. Import and exports are extremely hard to control.

But even with all of this, I just don't see a million pop feasible. Not without some super mods anyway.

But I believe the 16k traffic limit is part of an overall 64k agent limit? If we raise traffic limits, then we need to lower some other limit. It may be that we'll need separate 64k limits for all of the agent types before we can successfully max this game out which I assume will take a rewrite, or more likely a CSL2.

I also want to issue a small apology . I just realized that Helsinki , Finland's largest city , is only a little larger than 500,000 people and I did not mean to imply that such cities are inferior in any way .

Considering that the creators of the game have , as their largest city , a municipality that does not reach 1 Million I can understand if it is their stylistic choice for their game to be similarly scaled at this time . That being said , I still hope that one day they will allow us to be able to create cities that are more representative of the larger range of city sizes throughout the world .
