Hello Paradox & Colossal Order,

Well, the titles says it all: Why not crowdfunding? Maybe Kickstarter? It surely Kickstarter link removed - RRW. for other games.

I think Cities: Skyline has great potential to go over the roof with funding from people. I would be a backer for sure!

It would be really cool if you could share some insights.
Cheers!

They have a publisher, why would they crowdfund? Crowdfunding has it's issues and is not just something that should be done because one thinks one can make a lot of money from it.

Right... and having a publisher doesn't have its drawbacks? Just look at how EA fucked up SimCity. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not all for crowdfunding either. Let them do their thing and let's see where it ends up I guess :)

A lot of bonuses come out of a publisher contract, including marketing and contracts as well as technical and licensing assistance. Crowdfunding can be quite fickle, and I'm sure they're well aware of what they're getting given their previous relationship with Paradox.

Crowdfunding is humiliating for a big company (you basically say you won't be able to sell the game you are developing) and destroys production cycle as you probably will tell everybody everything about your game on an early stage of development and therefore will lose freedom of choice in development and public interest in following years of active production.

Not necessarily true. inXile I think was crowd-funded to success, but they do have the advantage of names behind them.

As for OP, CO already have a fixed and secure source of funds as well as marketing and technical support. Plus, CO and PI have done 2 games together, which adds value due to the attachment. On the off-chance that PI backs out of CSL, then CO could try crowdfounding or go to another publisher ...

Paradox Interactive IS the publisher. Paradox is the EA in this circumstance. I have faith that Paradox is a good publisher. Colossal Order are just the devs.

Lol, i wouldn't say 'just' the devs.. they are actually doing the hard work :p

Well, technically, the "hard work" is a result of them being devs, so yeah ... just devs ....

I doubt CO would be listed in the Finnish SE, since, if I recall right from their livestream, they are pretty much a very small company.

Well Chris Roberts is a well known man, and has a very large development team in multiple studios building a game thats received over 50 million in crowdfunding. But for this genre, id say sticking with PI as a publisher was a better choice
