They appear pretty capable of pulling this off in EU4 still (left to their own devices and facing other similarly undisturbed NPC enemies) so I'm not sure what's so terribly wrong that Paradox does about them

I don't believe AI makes any extensive use of the looting mechanics, so it's doubtful this most recent change is really such a huge nerf to them as some people are making it.

Come on one horde beating up on the other hordes does not even count. If there were chunks of Russian, Lith, and ottoman homelands under horde's control you may have had a decent argument.

Hordes really need a dedicated DLC.

In eu3 divine wind they are an interesting experience to play.
While their tech rate is extreamly bad (much worse then EU4 native americans) and they only have natural access to the same few unit types nothing expands faster then a succesfull horde as they take complete control over the provinces they occupied in a few years without any need for peace treaty at all.

Lol this topic won't ever die, Hordes and BYZ need their nerf every patch.
It's it own easter egg joke nowadays how silly it's gotten.
calling it now, these are the next nerfs, I'm sorry TheMeInTeam:

Nomad tech changed to 100% from 70%

Nomad tech cannot build cannons.

nomad cavalry ratio is now 50% from 100%

Horde government now has -50 tax income.

Eventually......
TheMeInTeam: wiz, i bet you 100 pesos that you would never buff hordes again and have no horde nerf.
Hot fixes including.
Wiz: Challenge accepted tmit.

next patch.....

Nomad tech can hire foreign mercenaries.
TMIT:I guess I was wrong, sorry wiz i wi-
mercenaries are twice as expensive for nomad tech.
TMIT:Wiz Pls.
Wiz:trollololololololololol I regret nothing!

As much as I want that, it seems so malicious though. The hordes had a lot more power when the game came out, and each successive patch removed bits and parts of their uniqueness and power. And now PDox is gonna say "Hey! Y'all want stronger hordes right? Well great! Remember all that stuff we nerfed and removed from the hordes? Yeah but now for $10, you can get it all back! Sweet deal huh?"

Yeah no. That would cause riots, even for people who don't care much for hordes. PDox has to undo their changes to the hordes or radically change how hordes work in general. The current plan of "making the hordes complete pushovers" is not gonna work.
