I ahve a huge empire. MASive 300+ provinces 5 CoT, 10 gold producing provinces + all of africa + south america...Now My maitranence is masive...i'm losing thousads of gold a turn. I should be making millions. I have a decent military less than 1million. for the size of my empire it is small.

So why?

also now for some reson as my empire grows large the less troops i can recrewwt from a single province REGARDLESS of its size. the max i can recrewt from rome is 3000!!!! that is pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Some you will not be able to recuit any from.
A million man army was unheard of in this time period.
Try reducing your support slider to the far left.
The morale hit is not that big compared to the savings.
Build Weapons manufactories.

Artillery can cost a fortune to support if you're well over the support limit.

You've probably chosen to use a high quality offensive army with lots of artillery - one of the quickest ways to bleed cash in the game :D

Check the extra upkeep cost for artillery. It is probably massive.

Let's make a qualified guess that Italian isn't your state culture.

You cannot recruit many troops in provinces without your state culture, so as your empire expands and you start recruiting outside your cultural area, recruitment possibilities will be very limited.

The solution is to raise wartaxes. Since the number of troops you can raise in a province is dependent on the tax value of said province as well as the province culture, the +150% boost to province tax income from wartaxes allows you to recruit rather more troops than would otherwise be possible.

When you hover/pause your mouse button over the tax buttons on a province, it will show you the reasons for the dimisished production such as different culture, different religion, etc. You can convert and build things in the province, but ultimately there are overall limits to how productive every province can be in your empire.

I think he is talking about the production of troops. :)

kinda of a side thing but in my austria age of mercentalism game i have constnetly about 50-60 artilery(and maybe some infantry and cav but i havent counted em) that dont show up on my maint costs. do weapon manufacturers actualy make small amounts of units free or am i really really lucky? cuz if its a bug it is a darn good one that hasnt gone away, allowing me to have many more artilery then i normaly could afford especialy when i only had the starting set-up and 4 hungarian provs. man i was poor compared to my big neighbors but my artilery was free and plentiful :D

Maybe you were max defensive / quantity. I dunno.

But back to the original posting, since Milan has no outstanding generals, I'd say go defensive, that might help on the artillery costs. This is because if you get in a large war with, say, France or Spain then you'll need to seige a whole lot and those countries like to get max. fortresses, so you need that artillery.

Now, say, if you could count on getting a Fredrick the Great or Napoleon, those fortresses would be toast to a max-morale army....
